is running a 160 stat bad for ill winter is about 40 outside today im thinking about putting a 180 or 195 stat back in it. its had to keep it running and it wants to die. now if i right would this affect open closed loop cycle. i know the rpms should stay high til it warms ups but not my car any ideas

There's not a lot of info there to go on, but I'd not look at the stat to necessarily help with the car's desire to stall. FWIW, after a couple of minutes or less of run-time, you ARE in closed loop.

I'd want to clean the IAC after pulling codes.

Good luck.

I pesonally wouldn't run a 160-degree thermostate on any basic bolt on fuel injected Mustang....especially in the winter. With your mods, you should never need anything colder than a 180-degree unit. Even the stock 192-degree thermostate would work just fine for year round duty.....and it will be easier on gas, reduce emmisions and increase the life of your engine oil to boot.
