Hey guys, I'm looking for some help or any ideas as to what happened to me this weekend. I was competing in my first open road race, and one of the events was a 1/2 mile shootout. My car is a 2006 GT with a 5-speed.

I was shifting right at 6200 RPM and when I tried going from 3rd straight down to 4th gear, it was like I hit a brick. I tried hitting it a few more times and it would not go. On my second run, the exact same thing happened again - it was like something was locking me out of 4th gear. So finally, on my third run I tried shifting earlier at 4800 RPM and it went into 4th gear just fine.

What would cause this? I talked to some other guys there running Mustangs and one of them was experiencing the exact same thing with a different shifter, so we can rule out the shifter being a problem. He also had to shift around 5000 RPM to get into 4th. Any ideas??

When you are running hard like that the transmission torques to the side. With our remote shifter design that is attached to the frame (not tranny) it doesn't move so it doesn't line up with the gear right. If you get a stiffer transmission brace then it wont torque as much and you wont have a problem.

At least this is what I'm hearing from a lot of other people on different boards.

That makes perfect sense. Do you have a link to such a brace or where I need to brace it at specifically? Thanks for the info, btw! :)

Get urethane motor mounts and transmission mount. That still won't completely cure the problem though. I didn't do the transmission mount, but did the Prothane motor mounts. My high rpm shifting problems were not completely cured until I installed an MGW shifter. It has a torsion device on the remote beam which is the only shifter out there that actually addresses the problem properly. It also has a fully adjustable shift throw length which is great. Stock throw to almost 50% shorter and it includes a great sound deadening package which comes with the shifter.

No, I do not. If you noticed, I don't have it either, but I've been problem free since the shifter install. Like you, I haven't seen tranny mounts available yet, but I haven't looked too hard.

+1 on the MGW shifter. I had problems shifint from 3rd to 4th at WOT dont have that problem anymore. CHE makes a k-member brace that helps with rigidty.
