Here are some pics of my latest project, 1965 mustang mirrors on my 08 GT. Took a long time and a lot of work and trial and error but its finally done and i love it but i wanted to get others opinions on it. Let me know what you think.
Wow looks like that took a while, i will be respectful of your effort and simply say not my cup of tea.
You appear to have some excellent craftsmanship there. I think the idea is good, but they just look a little small on the S197.
I like them much better than the black plastic truck mirrors that came stock on these cars. Nice job! Overall I prefer the colour matched Agent47 retro mirrors - yours would be a close second though.
The main part was making a piece to cover the existing mirror's hole. I looked everywhere and the last year they made a mirror delete kit was 93' so i learned how to lay fiberglass and made myself some fiberglas covers. I had to grind them down to size and make a bracket to attach in the back so they would stay put, then i was trying to build a support for the mirrors so that i would not have to drill into the car but after about a week or trial and error i decided that drilling into the car was not that bad because i needed to drill in the area where the stock mirror housing covers (if i ever decide to sell the car or put the stocks back on). No the mirrors are not auto, i was going to get the auto ones but they would require a much bigger hole and i was not willing to do that to my car just yet. I would also have to make covers for the interior to support the auto mirror adjustment piece, with my existing setup the interior cover just pops right back on. All in all it was not that bad, but since i was the first person to do it i had no clue on what the best method was so i had to try several different ways out. But it can be done for about 80 bucks which is not that bad. If anyone wants me to send them a step by step process on how to do it lemme know, its actually not that much work if you have a plan and follow it.
I like the look but would never give up my power mirrors. I have a 1966 convertible and my mirrors are never properly adjusted.
I like it better then the big freaking mirrors on the stock GTs. I wonder if the Shelby Mirror would look better though? hmm Bullet Mirrors

I admire your workmanship! Excelent job. However, the mirrors are a bit out of place on the large s197s.. While the stock mirrors are somewhat ugly, the do an excellent job of making blind spots visible..
Thanks, I got the mirrors off ebay. Paid 23 bucks for both! They were perfect quality came packaged nicely with screws and with the watertight seal. The chrome on them is perfect too. I just received my dark clear corners today that i bough from ebay for 30 bucks and they are VERY good quality i will try and install soon and post pics. I know lots of people are scared to buy off ebay buy its all the same products, i bought my cold air intake off ebay and after buying i realized it was from brothersperformance.com and it was at a huge discount over regular price. So ebay is good, good part and cheap cheap prices.
The chrome looks really nice and at a great price - about the price of plastic covers for the OEM truck mirrors. Its nice to see people get creative rather than just plunk down some cash. I would think that visibility must surely be greatly reduced though. My first car was a 1967 Stang and I hated the manual passenger side mirror where you actually had to have the passenger roll down the window to adjust it - motorized convenience is for me. What I really like is your side louvers - what make are they? Also, are they stuck to the glass or the body paint? How are they on dirt and water entrapment?
