This is clearly a matter of personal opinion (fun to debate, but ultimately pointless to argue over). That said, I still think keeping horizontal brake lights has some merit. Someone said it well above that verticle lights are the more common layout with the line of Mustangs (heritage). That argues strongly for keeping the one distinctive styling trait on our cars (Ford even kept true to the heritage in a way by using 3 lights). But more importantly, don't you feel a certain let down when you see the 4.6 on the side, or verticle tails on a SN-95, since that means there's a weak, early modular motor in there? I do. As far as the tribars, come on. Ford has been making crappy, fugly wheels from the beginning. So there is nothing unique about the desire/need to upgrade our boring stock wheels, as is with most years (with a few exceptions). I'm lost on the comment about not going to a 93 elbow conversion. WTF? Mustang motors are meant to be modded. But to each his own. Mod away, and enjoy.
Honestly, I'm starting to like the 96-98 tails a little better. Mainly due to the plastic having that cleaner and clearer texture to it. Doubt I'll ever actually change over, though.
Wow i read this and cannot dissagree more but, like you said its a matter of personal opinion. So here is my .02 I have the horiz. tails. I don't like them when i put my 96-98 cobra bumper on ill do the lights too. Looks more like a mustang the three bar lights are like heritage for our cars. I agree the horiz. tails give it a wider look but I am not going for that so it aint my prob. Ford wheels are by far a great wheel and good design. I still sport stockers. Tri-bars are a nice wheel just well heck everyone has had them just about at one time or another. Most ford wheels are very nice (03cobras,98 cobras,00and 95 cobra R's, ponies for focx's heck even the new bullitt style wheel for the '05 aint bad). So to carry on with my opinion get the lights if that is what you want many people do it dont be ashamed to do what you think looks good just cause someone else don't like it.
Personally, I don't care, the main reason I leave on my 94-95's is because, in time, people will be able to differentiate my car from the rest of our style. I'm all for the horizontals, but I don't knock the vertical sissies.....
I like the look of surprise when they pull up to me and hear my cam after seeing my tail lights, or even better when they want to run since they think I'm some schmuck who stuck 302 badges on a 4.6 and they find out it really is a 5.0 under the hood. It's like the rope-a-dope move, I tricked them and now they get a punch to the head.
just a matter of opinion as everyone has said. i like em both personally. the 96-98's look cool, but the 94-95 distinct the 5.0
Thats perfect.... actually, I thought about doing the conversion for that very reason back in '96-'97 when they just came out with the verticals and then again when they came out with the sequential signaling.
If your talking about the actual lense, try wiping it down with some starter fluid. Mine had that white build-up on it, and it was also fading. I wiped the lenses down with starter fluid, and they look much better. All the white stuff came off, and the lenses looked "redder". Try to keep it off the paint though. Brandon
Yeah I tohught the same thing back in my senior year of high school when '96 debuted in late '95. Back then it was quite popular to do the conversion so that was one of my first real modifications to the car. The sequentials are great, you can do it with the horizontals, but the effect isn't as cool. I've still got my horizontals in case I ever want to go back, but I don't think I will.
