My stock 96 Cobra needs tires. Is there a brand and size that offers both great grip (straight-line speeds) and handling? I'm currently running (almost bald) 255/45/17 Yokohama A 520's. Should I go with 275 tires? Also, would switching to different rims (size, type or whatever) improve performance? I also want greater HP, and I'm thinking a CAI, any recommendations on brands and other inexpensive additions? Thank you.

I would suggest BFG KDW tires.

Switching rims would improve performance if the new rims were lighter. For best performance use 17" rims.

275's are too big for the stock rims. I run 17x9's and nitto 255's front and 275's dr's rear. But I just got some 17x10.5's for the rear so I'm gonna try the 315 MT dr's next. UD pullies and gears to wake it up.

BFG KDW hands down!!! They are the best street tire on the market. Mine are bald on my notchback and they still hook and corner freeways at 90+. When they were new, I thought they were just as good as my Nitto Drag radials which I run on my Cobra. My notchback has upgraded 5 lug 96 Cobra wheels which are 17"X8" wheels with 245-45-r17's.

I would not waste my money on 275's because your rims are only 8 inches wide, however they will still fit. They will not look wider though, they will just buldge over the sides. IF you want 275's a 9 inch wheel will be the correct width.
