What are the problems with the 99/01 Cobras? I heard from the buddy of mine that the 99 at least had power issues, and stock GT's were able to take them out. True, false? I am thinking of buying a 99/01 Cobra (probably 99 cause it is cheaper) and was wondering what I would have to deal with, and what needs to be done to fix it.

    :rlaugh:

That's a good one. Well, the 99's did have an issue in most cars. They recalled them and did the "fix" as Ford called it. It consisted of reflashing the computer, replacing the mufflers, and fixing the lower intake (removing a lot of excess flash material). 99.9% of the cars had the fix performed. You can call 1-800-SVT-FORD and give them the vin number to make sure this was done.

That's it. The other things that aren't the best when compared to the 01's is the bumper says "mustang" instead of "cobra", no polished wheel options, seats aren't as nice as the 01's, 1 cd instead of 6-cd changer, and there is a difference in the trans, T45 vs. T3650...both have their own little issues.

    Good luck!

Glad to hear that. Now, how much can the stock motor take, power wise? I see that you have 514rwhp on your's. Is that will all stock internals? Isn't the block and heads all alum.?

All aluminum...all stock internals. Actually had the car detuned slighty. Don't want to run 110 race gas. Tuned on 94 octane now (pump gas in Michigan at select stations). 487RWHP, with a very safe, conservative tune.

However, I understand the risk and the fact that the engine could go at anytime. I'm ready for that. If you want to stay n/a, you should be able to get up to 330RWHP or so.

For now thats my plan without anything major...330/330 to the wheels.

I need some good headers and more money. Well I need lots the engine is stock right now, lol. Got a few things ready to order soon and my pro 5.0 and CC plates should go in this week sometime at a new shop here in Indy, IN. Dealer still has my car!!! 2 days now and they have not checked my shifting yet, at least I get the free rental.

What I was wanting to do here is sell my 67 when she is finished (paint and interior is all that is left) and then buy a 99 Cobra (what price should I expect to pay). First two mods would be gears and exhaust. I then was thinking of looking around for the stock blower off a 03 or 04 that someone has replaced with a KB (I am thinking I could get it for not too much here). My goal would be to get 400rwhp and run that until I wasn't happy with it anymore, in which case the motor would come out and then go back in with the addition of some new cams, forged internals, and some shinny tubes on each side. :D

Problem there is you need a lot of custom work done to make an 03/04 blower work on your 99. There was 1 person who did this...and the shop had his car for like 6 months. (I can't rememeber which forum that was on).

It's a lot more than a swap. Plus the roots blower will put a lot more stress on the motor since you will see max boost at much lower RPM's...it's like an instant hit of power, where the centrifical is a gradual increase.

Amount to pay...depends. As cheap as $12,000 if it has some miles on it. Not really sure.
