My 89 2.3 LX has the HR980 compressor, I think, and was converted to HFC 134 by previous owners. My initial internet search indicates this compressor is not well suited to 134 use.

Is this true or is this outdate information?

Can I expect this to perform well and last a while, or should I look around for a conversion to another compressor?

    Thanks. rd

i have the stock 1992 compressor (different then yours) and it works ok with 134a. The front radiator fan doesnt move enough air to keep the AC cool at stoplights though. Works best when you are moving.

I have the 89 LX. I converted mine over to 134a 2-3 years ago. Works great but not as cold as R-12, can't have it all I guess....
