I just ordered a set of 315 35 17 Goodyear GSD3 tires for my new 10.5" wheels. Is it wrong to go with a cheaper set of 255 40 17s up front? If I go with a set of BFG sports I will save 180 bucks. Is there anything wrong with this? They are both z rated tires.
Get the GSD3's in the front, I had yokohamas, bfg, and stock goodyears in the front while running the GSD3's in the back, and nothing rides as nice and handles as well as when I put GSD3's in the front!
Nothing wrong with it, it just comes down to a personal taste. Lots of guys are running mismatched tires in the front and rear. I'm running BFGs up front and cheapy Sumitomo's in the rear. I'd like to try GSD3s but there price is just
I personally always use the cheap $100/each tires on the front as i dont plan on autocrossing the car or anything that calls for awesome handling. Also, I can stomp on the brakes at decent speeds and get barely any tire skid (although that might change when i upgrade to cobra brakes). So in my mind, its pointless to spend the extra money when it can go to mods ;-)
Mismatched is the way to go. No way id spend an extra $180 on tires that are going to have the rubber peeled off of them from my daily abusive driving. Thats just me though.
I have never had any trouble doing it....obviously you can't rotate anyway. I am picturing moving my rear's up to the front--would look like drag Honda, lol.
Well I got the wheels from OE Wheels on Ebay.. I just got an email saying it can take up to two weeks I will be receiving the tires tomorrow.... this blows.
They have slow shipping. I run a Sumitomo 245/45/17 up front, and a 315/35/17 MT drag radial out back. I have had no problems.
My car = Drag radials in the back for straight line traction Least expencive tires I can find up front Infact my fronts are my stock tires! Yea im cheap But they are BALD, so now im going with General Exclaim (sp) UHPs ($90ish) for water traction. Tires wear out too quick for me to spend that sortof money. DRs are worth the coin IMO though.
Thought I would share some pictures. Its awfully painful to see these sit in the garage with nothing to put them on The funny part is the guy from tirerack.com called me monday to inform me that the Goodyear tire I selected would not fit a mustang wheel. I so badly wanted to say "A 315 cant fit an 8" wheel!!!?" But I didn't. I told him I had aftermarket wheels on the way, so he released the order.
^ Wait a minute...LAST picture, look to the right. WHAT THE HECK IS THAT!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW Nice tires you guys .
