I've got a long story I'm going to try and shorten. I was going to order Hypercoated FR500's from American Muscle. When I went to order they were sold out of the 18x10's. So I looked around and found an auction on Ebay of American Muscle's, where they were selling some with a few scratches on the lip. So I got the pair of rears for about $150 dollars and then ordered the 18x9's from there site since they were in stock. When the rims showed up the 18x10's were two different colors. One looked Hypercoated the other Anthracite. American Muscles explanation is them using different vendors with slightly different finishes and that they are both Hypercoated. I.E. me being screwed because it's there ebay auction and not new (You would think they would update the picture on there site if this is the case) Then the 18x9's that were brand new showed up. Well...they look Anthracite too!!!! Now I'm kind of bummed because these supposed "hypercoated" rims look very dark compared to the pics on there website or the one lighter rim I received that actually looks hypercoated. I could order another new rim that they say will match the other three. But then I have four rims that have a darker finish than I wanted. Or I can send them back...pay $30 a wheel to ship them back...and then get hit with a shipping charge from them, since they give free shipping but if you return them you have to pay for it. So then I'm into the return over $250. I feel real helpless right now. I don't know what to do. My only other hope is if I order another 18x10" it matches the lighter rim and I'll know they shipped me Anthracite on accident and fixing the problem will be on them. I'm just gun shy because if it is just there new hypercoated being darker I'm $60 deeper into shipping charges for the additional rim. I hate my life P.S. - The lip on both rims is the same. The one rim just has the protective rubber on it in the picture. The part I'm talking about is the center color of the rim.
I really think they sent me Anthracite rims. But I sent pictures to American Muscle and they insist they are hypercoated. They just look so ****ing gray and that isn't the look I wanted or the look of hypercoated from the pictures on their site. Edit: I think I'm going to bite the bullet and order one more. It's either going to match the other three...or I prove they sent me the wrong one's. It's the only way to know for sure.
I decided to order one more rim. We'll see what color it is when it gets here Monday. It's an adventure every time...you never know what will show up
check out this thread, he had almost the same issue as you http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=710388
That doesn't make me feel any better about things. Actually worse! At least I know if they give me any crap not to bother arguing with them. I will just file through my bank and get my money back that way. - Justin
Justin, i can tell u those are NOT anthracite... atleast, they dont look it mine are anthracite, and dont look as shiny in the middle of yours... idk if that helps out any? i ordered mine off ebay somehwere, i forget where actually... OE Wheels i believe.. but i think they are both hypercoated and that they might infact be from two different vendors, there is a possibility... good luck with everything man!
Yea, anthracite would be alot darker than that. I think you might have jsut gotten two wheels made at different times, and the batches of the "hypercoating" were different.
You guys may be right. I agree that the ones I have don't look as dark. Going off there website they definitely look closer to Anthracite than Hypercoated though. At this point everything rests on what the rim that shows up on Monday looks like. If it matches I'll probably just keep them. If not then I'm sending them all back and they can send me a full set that all match in color. - Justin
NO WAY!!! I'm not giving up my powered one that rolls up the hose by itself. I'm not going back to the old school way where I actually have to put the hose away myself I think I like the table idea that's in another thread. If I end up with an extra rim (which it looks like I will) that's my plan. - Justin
LOL i was thinkin the same thing with the table hahaha... well now ull have a coffee table and two end tables... seriously tho if u have time, can u get a shot of the rims maybe w/o the flash on? idk, maybe its my eyes but i cant tell too MUCH of a difference, cant tell if its the glare...
I've done that. They look closer when the sun is directly reflecting on them. The bottom line is there is no doubt they are different though. - Justin
ah i dont doubt you at all justin, ive never dealt with a hypercoated, they just look like chrome to me
I'm a color conversion specialist for a mail order catalog company. I basically adjust color on hundreds of images a month for web press runs in quantities of up to a million catalogs in one given month. Trust me, they don't match. And it would drive me insane to see them every day for the rest of my life.
Arent those painted with some sort of high temp paint anyway? My ulta-lites satin finish is just paint anyway.
those ARE hypercoated...they look different in person but they look good...you do have two different shades though. These are hypercoated saleens
ok, see... now that i see what hypercoated really is, i can see how they are different shades... damn, hopefully they can resolve this **** bro!
