65ShelbyClone said:About the only way to make an educated guess would be to look at the block casting number. If it starts with C8, C9, D0, etc, it is very likely a 302. If it starts with a C, but the following number is less than 8, its probably a 289. The only important between the '60s 289s and 302s was displacement.
