going to buy a 91 lx the aod is dead the car is stone stock down to the air box silencer im probably just gonna get a cheap used replacement because im too deep into my 67 coupe project to spend too much on a tranny but anyway im just lookin for some feedback about good built aod will it make a stock motor run much faster? what is needed to handle 450rwhp?

thanks bill

My opinion on AOD is that although they rob some of your horsepower, with a transgo shift kit, a stall converter, and a nice big tranny cooler, you should be right up there with the 5 spd guys.

Here's some info on building an AOD to handle various levels of power.

Here's some more detailed info on the inner workings of AOD's and the later model 4R70W's which have stronger internal parts, many of which will swap
into the AOD.

Be sure to adjust your throttle valve properly. The TCI transmission website
has good isntructions.

i have 403rwhp going through my aod with a shift kit and 2200 stall. no problems yet. i just put on a different sc pulley. should get me about 3lbs of boost. i just started spraying methanol as a boost cooler yesterday and its running horribly rich but im still tuning. ill have about 450rwhp when its all done going through my aod. planning on going 3200 stall too.
some advice....for converters, minimum of 2800
