BIG PROBLEM 89 LX NOW IT WONT START

I finally got the car charging and running so i went for a drive today. parked it in the driveway and turned it off. wanted to turn it back on to check voltage, sounded like a bomb went off when i did it. loud noises and then it started but didnt sound good at all. i dont know if the starter is staying open or what? if anyone can help i would love to hear your thoughts. iam stumped, sorry for so many questions this week.

What happened after the noise? Did you let it keep running?

After you shut it off, did you try to restart it? Does it crank over?

You're going to have to be more specific, when you did what? It sounds like it went off when you checked the voltage......

i got the car out of the driveway today and off the incline so i can jack it up. sounds like the starter is goin out or falling off. the guy who put the trans in might have left off the top bolt. ill post more once i get underneath it.

you get what you pay for!

it was the starter coming loose. the top bolt was not there, the kid who put my trans in gave me a great price but 2 months later im still fixing **** he jacked up. oh well, ive learned alot of stuff about my car and have found a great source here for great feedback on my project. thanks for all the replies!
