I have a 92 GT with a BWT5 tranny. Now I've always used gear oil when adding fluids back. I never had a problem before. But now I think with this car that my tranny is getting hot. Idling, nothing. When I drive it down the road and back I can smell what i think is the tranny getting hot. But I thought it might have been leaking down on the exhaust and causing the smell but I can't find any leaks. And it says that I should use ATF in the BWT5. Is there a big difference in using the ATF over the Gear Oil? Please help.

You need ATF for your trans. It's think enough to get between the tight parts and properly lubricate them. I'm surprises your trans isn't making a loud whine noise from running gear oil.
