I test drove an '06 Premium yesterday, black on black, with only 5K miles. The guy selling it is actually an independent dealer, he's had it for the last 2 months and put the last 1K miles on it. Anyway, he pulled up the carpet in the trunk, and the sheetmetal was actually painted a greenish color, looked mork like overspray. Is this what color they all are in that area? Is that some kind of metal treatment that's on the sheetmetal at places that don't receive paint? I couldn't tell anywhere else that it had been repainted or anything.
can someone explain what this IS !!!!! The part with the circle around in the trunk ! I dont have that in my trunk , just wondering what it is !
Its a bomb! Ahhh!! Nah. Just me satellite radio. The previous owner listened. I dont pay for the service, so its just dead weight. I should take it out, huh? That probably why my quarter mile sucks!
It's just sheetmetal treatment. Depending on the color, they sometimes overspray the car which covers more sheetmetal area. But nowadays the automotive industry is all about cost-saving projects. The less they paint the more they save. How I know this... well I used to work for Ford for about 5 years, building the CD3 cars.
Its a light from of rust protection from my understanding. At least that is what I was told from my neighbor who does body work. He said he stresses light because as we all know trunk sheet metal rusts easily.
My trunk was blue. Now it's fully carpeted. The only place it had the greenish color was the very center underside of the hood.
