    Hi,

We are going to be replacing the old worn out shocks/struts on our 1997 Cobra. I have a couple questions that maybe somone can answer.

First, We want to replace all 6 of them. What are the 2 additional stabilizing shocks on the rear called? I can't seem to find them listed along with the shocks/struts.

Secondly, What company makes the best OEM style replacement that will perform as well of better than the OEM units without making the ride harsh.

This subject was touched on in a previous thread. My Dad really wants OEM replacement shocks. Does anyone know what brand came on the car?

The horizontal dampers are called "quad shocks."

If your father is looking for the OEM "brand," his best bet is to seek out Ford/Motorcraft brand replacements (those could wind up costing him a lot of $$$ at your local dealership).

If his goal is to replace all of the shocks/struts, a quality front/rear package (including springs which are equally important) can be had from many aftermarket vendors. Stangsuspension, maximum motorsports are just a few examples of available vendors who specialize in suspension setups - give them a call.

    G'luck.

Just want to add that the front struts are modified MacPhersons.

I put 03-04 Mach 1 struts on my 96 Cobra. Handles wonderful. I still have Lakewood 50/50's on the rear, but I should put my stockers or Mach 1 shocks on the back. I'm sick of the Lakewoods bumpy ride.
