I wasnt aware so many people felt this way too Everywhere I go I hear "5.0 or bust" in regards to sound. I kinda like the burble/ ruunning underwater sound, especially at idle / deccel sounds so bad ass. 5.0s idle too damn quietly/tamely (until a cam gets into the picture)
Ok I have to respectfully disagree with all you guys that like the sound of the modular motor over the old pushrod motors. I happen to love the sound of the 5.0s alot more than the mod motors. To me it just sounds wierd hearing a mod motor up against a pushrod motor. The tone of the 5.0 is just so deep. Yeah and I just love it. Plus you put a good cam in it and oh boy. Some mod motors have what I think is a good sound to em but They don't have that muscle car sound for a good reason They ain't from the time frame of Muscle Cars like the sbf Once again ... From the perspective of one who is older than most here I'd rather BE fast than SOUND fast :Word: Grady
The 5.0 has the muscle car pushrod sound, the modular has a sound all in its own. Both sound fast, both can be fast I think its important to have the "total package" with this kinda car, and a good note is part of that IMHO. They aren't the fastest out there, but the total package puts a smile on your face ls1's are fast, but tend to sound like an aggressive v6
LS1's that sacrifice ground clearance sound absolutely insane with long tubes, x/h, and 40 series flow's dumped. And grady, i dont think people are trying to decide between going fast and sounding fast....its just the tone of the exhaust being discussed. Not like guys want to swap in cams that will slow them down but just want the sound of a cam'd motor....
With the tradiational crossflow muffler setup they dont sound good....i dont know if aggresive v6 describes it. Aggressive v6 definitely describes vipers tho lol
I don't really like the 2v mod motor sound but the 4v's... I love that sound. IMO, though, nothing is better than the sound of a 5.0 with h/c/i, o/r x, and dumped Flows. It's just so raspy, aggressive and loud, that you can't NOT like it!
I had my days of sounding faster than I was, but I'm done with it, I think That said, I'll still be stupidly loud, I'll just be a F$*Kload faster than I was before Again, mods to pushrods are non comparible. Pushrods - unrefined, old school, sex. 4V Mods - smart sound. Angry, but smart. Off topic, heard my brother's 32V Northstar Cadillac with Magnaflows at 5800 rpm. It was a symphony of ridiculous. I nearly pooped.
I've got a fairly well breathing H\C\I, but my car sounds even more evil now. It's a little bit different that the typical mustang exhaust setup though. I have a cam that's valve event are rather well suited to an open header environment. I noticed while doing some work under my car that my off road H was actually 2.25" instead of 2.5. I guess someone had cut the cats off, put in some pipe, and it looked just like an off road aftermarket until it caught my eye and I took a closer look a while back. I was now in the situation where I needed to get different exhaust anyway, so I took the time to figure out what would work best with my cam. The results were also amplified by my plans to run n2o in the future. I ordered a set of Summit longtubes with 1 5\8" primaries and 3" collectors. Now that I had the headers on the way, I decided to opt for 3" tubing connecting each one to a 3" Mac Flowpath muffler. So, in effect, I have longtube headers into dual 3" exhaust into 3" Macs exiting the outlet with no tailpipes. I decided to try it out without the H because I could always put one in later, and I really don't think that it needs one with the diameter of the exhaust anyway. My thoughts have since been verified by some very well known builders. Anyway, a side effect of building this exhaust that is suited specifically to my setup is it now sounds absolutely ferocious. I was expecting good, even better than the equal length shorties into off road H into 40 series flowmasters I had before, but it ended up being 20 times better than I could have ever expected. I am truly amazed by it actually and couldn't be happier with it's performance AND sound. So, if you are looking for a way to make a H\C\I 5.0 sound even meaner, I can tell you, this will definitely work. lol
