fitting a babyseat?

so the time for my wife and I has come to start looking into a baby seat since she is pregnant. shes not far along but I want to research now and not in 8 months when SHTF time comes and I'm unhappy with what I get. My fox is my DD I'm worried about finding a seat that will work great both rear facing and forward facing which is what I want I'm looking at the Recaro ProRIDE in red (link at bottom) but am worried about fitment it will go behind the passenger seat and obviously be rear facing for a while. so what say you?

keep in mind I have a 91 porno red interior hatch.

Coming from someone who has an 18 month old, these cars are NOT fun with with car seats, unless its just you and your child. Two people with the baby, count it out lol. Only safe place for the car seat is behind one of the seats, not in the middle. With putting the car seat on the sides, someone is going to be scrunched against the dash. My other half is 5' 6", and she got uncomfortable. I am 6' 1", so it wasn't happening putting her behind me. We tried the middle, and there is a hump, that isn't level. Let alone, there is no middle seat belt, so you have to "X" the seat belts, which aren't safe, because they don't lock. If its just you and your child, you should be fine. I know this isn't what you asked, but thought I should warn you, space will be very limited with two people up front lol.

If your looking for a safe car seat, this is a great one. We couldn't be any happier with the products. It might be on the higher side of car seats, but its got everything that supports the child and made us comfortable. Yours is even higher in price than this one, but this is one I would recommend, by experience lol.

thanks for the response. but yes it will only be when its just the two of us if we went anywhere as a family it would be in my wifes SUV.

The seat belts in these cars in the rear aren't that good especially if its lap belt only 79-89.. I wouldn't even think of putting a small baby in one of these cars because honestly you can't mount the seat properly according to law and design

That's how it is for us lol. I would rather put the miles on the Jeep than my car anyway. Besides, the new Rancho suspension I put on it makes it a more comfy ride haha.

yeah her car is nearly stock with some 18s thats really it. comfortable ride though. plus ive already got it setup for long trips with tvs hahaha

IIRC, on the seat belt itself (driver's side I believe), it recommends a seat belt clip for child seat restraints. It locks the seat belt in place, and doesn't allow it to move. I can't find anything online, and its too cold to go out, otherwise I would check.

Honestly I wouldn't drive a newborn around in a fox mustang. The new design of the car seats have to many mounting points needed to be utilized to work properly. Even with the metal belt lock it can still slip I have a 4 year old with a baby on the way. I'll take the 4 yr old in the car because of the style booster he uses now but not a new born especially in a rear facing seat

I don't feel safe having my little one in my car. I don't trust the seat belts, as they don't lock. I have thought about welding in latches, but that is just too much work. She has been in it once, in over a year. I have it lucky though, because my other half is a stay at home mommy, so I have the luxury of not having to use my car to transport her around.

I have always been a fan of the Britax car seats and that is all I have ever had. I have no experience with a car seat in a mustang so I can't say anything about that. I know I feel that my peanut is safe in her Britax.

yeah I hear you I'm in the process of redoing the interior and need to remove the seats and carpet anyways so I may look into it though unlikely.

I would love to get a different DD but its not in the budget and neither was getting pregnant considering my wife was still on the pill when she got pregnant. keep in mind the baby seat in my fox wont be a daily thing and we can work around not putting our child in as much as possible by swapping cars and what not.

I pulled one set of my OEM belts out of the car and used a set of aircraft belts when my daughter was younger. I put a ratcheting strap through the second set of holes on the cars seat then made sure the seat back was fully latched.

The aircraft belts just latched onto rings. Was simple to do and undo and that baby seat was going nowhere. Lol

I've had both my kids in my car, but not before they were around 3 years old simply because I didn't think it was right putting a baby in a loud ass car lol. They both loved it too. I never had to deal with baby style car seats, since they were both into the more booster style seats by the time they rode in it. The secret to getting the seat belted in securely with a lap belt is to physically get inside the car and put your knees in the seat to put a lot of weight on it and let the belt retract. Then when you get up the seat will be rock solid. I did this with their booster seat and the seat has never budged. Aside from all that, my real concern wasn't the security of the seat, but rather getting T boned on the side they were on, because it's pretty much game over.

Google Consumer Reports and infant car seats. They publish that info for free since the tests are so important. Also, I never cared what color the seat was if it was safe. Time will fly and you will need bigger everything. Booster seats fit much better in any little car or a truck. I am so glad they put rear shoulder belts in the 91. I have foam ear plugs for everybody in case we go on a trip. Over the ear, shooter style hearing protection would be easier, but they do not fit in the glove box. (Yes, I am hoping putting some cats back on will help. Going to super turbos from flowmasters made little/no difference in HP and did not kill the drone! It made a huge full throttle difference in sound.)
