My girlfriend is looking for a new car and really wants a mustang v6:shrug:. The only problem is that she is worried about driving it to school in the winter. Can you guys help me convince her to get one.

It's a V6 with much less torque...what's the difference in driving it in the winter...because of the rwd?...Women are generally lighter on the pedal than men are (especially in snow)...I figure she'll probably have an easier time than I did. :)

I used to drive my 01 GT year round up here in Maine without an issue, so I am pretty sure it can be done!! Tell her to get some snow tires for the winter and drive like a normal human and she will never know the difference.

do the v6 stangs have traction control? It is a v6 stang not exactly a tourqe monster, just tell her not to punch the gas in the snow and she should be fine. Just be sure to get full coverage on it for when she slides into something.

I live in Ohio and we tend to get a lot of snow in the winter months. And I used to think that RWD was bad in the winter, but then when you really look at it. There are snow plows on the road. And in the rare occasion that you HAVE to drive when they havent been out yet, as long as you drive safely you are fine.

I guess it depends on your winters, Im assuming more snow for Maine, but you do have snow plows out on the road? If she gets a v6, this is the perfect excuse to buy her a T-LOK differential and some new gears while you are at it!
When I had my v6, I had that to get rid of the "one wheel peel" and handling in turns and such was better in the winter.
  9. myponyrocks I have more billet on the Stang than most women ha

I drive my GT aprox 25 miles each way in the snow to get to work. Its a little scary without snow tires, but the V6 can hold a bigger assortment of snow rims wich would allow it to be economical to have 2 sets of wheels.

Get her the car, oh and from what 've heard the 05-06s handle pretty good in inclimate weather

*EDIT* Traction control is a big no no, maybe its different on an automatic, I dunno. However using TC will most likely get you stuck because a little spinning sometimes maintains forward mementum whereas a sudden halt of the wheels spinning will get you stuck on hills, at lights, and maybe worse.

I agree, as long as you have SNOW tires... I got caught without them (freak snow storm) the end of winter 2k5 and nearly went off the road 10 times and couldn't make it over 10mph without losing traction (using hardly any gas, basically idling).

I guess I understand her concern about driving the car in the winter. Keep in mind that I have never driven in snow, so I have no idea what it's like. :)

    She should get a GT.

Tell her to get the GT. I'm a girl and mine is also my daily driver (as was my 94 GT), snow or no snow. If she just remembers she is driving a mustang when there is snow and takes it slow she will be fine. I think if she is used to riding in a V8 she will be disappointed in nice weather with a 6. JMO.

She already wants one, why do you still need to convince her?

If you woman doesnt feel comfortable driving a rwd car in the winter, dont try to convince her to get one. It is just asking for trouble. It is obvious she is nervous in winter driving, adding rwd and it could not be good.

Sure rwd is certainly driveable in snow but it is worse than fwd or 4wd. I drove my 2004 GT with 315s in the snow once and I was fine, but I certainly wouldnt feel comfortable with my fiance doing it.

Lady next door to me has a V6 Mustang. This winter she put on snow tires and pretty sure she has TCS and ABS.

ANyway, her car is all cracked up now from spinning out a few times in the snow. The hood is cracked, the headlight hangs out and the rear bumper is also hit as well.

I drove my GT in the snow, but i was also smart enough to know when to park it and bum a ride off.

I wouldn't let her drive a Mustang if she's gonna have to drive it in the snow.

I once got caught out in about 3 inches of fresh snow on a late night. Needless to say, to get home I had to surmount one of the steepest hills in the county. Turned off the traction control, popped it in third gear and cruised up that monster at about 2500-3500 rpms, the whole time I was practically looking out of my passenger side window because of the way the rear end was sliding out! On the way up I passed about 5 cop cars stopped to help out two SUVs that has wrecked! They watched me in pure awe as the stang powered up the hill! I'll never forget the look on thier faces haha! I drove home (sideways) for about another 2 miles, the hardest part was turning into my driveway.

To this day I still dont know how I made it up that damn hill!
