driving me nuts. Both passenger and drivers doors are making a "cracking"
sound when closed. I think it might have something to do with the wheel on the
lower hinges. I've lubricated the hinges but they are still making the sound.

Has anyone ever heard about or experienced something like this?

My dad's 78 Porsche does that. I can't remember what causes it though. The door still works so we kind of ignore it but check to see if there is anything bent on/around the hinges on your door.

I would put towels all around the hinges and spray them down with brakleen. (Towel off painted areas; brakleen eats paint). I'd clean em up real good, then hose each metal to metal area with White Lithium Grease, or some graphite. I'd rotate the little wheel a little bit, then I'd work the door back and forth a few times. That little excercise worked out every door noise that I had ever come across. Make sure that the door doesn't change height at any position. That could mean a bad hinge. My friend's Cougar would drop about an inch each time you'd open it.

Very interesting replies. Thank you.
I'll try rotating the wheel. If that doesn't work, then it's new wheels.
Does anyone know if the door has to come completely off in order to change them?
