Think verts pillers are thicker as well.... either way its not like it matters if you wanna do it... just cage... and through the floor subframes... if you know enough to make it work right... you will have no problem doing a nice set of through the floors... all you would have to do is cut a marked section from your current roof... reinforce the remaining metal and the cut piece... mount some tabs... to lock it in to... and buy some weatherstripping for it.... hell you can even use lockable hood pins to hold it down... mounted in side the car or on the top its self... if i had a shell sitting around id try it just to say i did it... i mean i dont consider my self any sort of fabricator.... but you could make it work...

I would guess that the transmission tunnel gives the unibody enough support to not collapse without the roof support. I believe the extra pillar support is to protect the driver in a rollover accident. The roof probably braces the coupe pillars well enough.

I've look under Verts and seen very little difference. There are a few braces on the K-member, but nothing that ties the subframes together. Verts do have a tendancy to flex more, but nothing a set of subframe connectors doesn't fix. More than likely, the SVO collapsed because the underside was already compromised with rust. If you do the T-tops, just put a set of subframe connectors, and you are guaranteed to be fine.

You are correct about the A-pillars. They are stronger for roll over accidents not for overall body rigidity.

I read the Corral thread and didn't read where the floorboard collapsed. The guy had sub-frame connectors so the body didn't flex at all when he cut the roof.
