yeah it does matter, the engine is the heart of what it is. if you get beat by an LS1 powered mustang, what did you really get beaten by? a chevy. it was just moving along a differently shaped hunk of sheet metal. as for the LS2 in an old malibu...not hard at all to fit, the hard part is the electronics that go along with it. it can and has been done though, for far cheaper than it is to stuff a chevy motor into a ford. on a more old school 350, non-LS1 note... the long running joke in my family at classic car shows was that guys who put small block chevys into their ford hot rods didnt have enough $$ to finish the car properly. lol. there used to be a 54 ford truck running around here with a sticker on the back that said "built ford tough with chevy stuff" and he was the laughing stock of the area. it can be a treat to see someone who has built a ford vehicle and actually used a ford engine. the only real benefit i can see of using an old 350 is that they are plentiful and that means cheap. ford stuff runs just as good but just isnt as cheap seeing how chevy, pontiac, buick, gmc, cadillac, oldsmobile for a long time all used the same stuff starting around the mid 70's
go onto an f-body forum and ask what they think about a ford powered camaro and see what kind of reaction you get
ive seen numerous cars with N/A 351s and they are TURDS. even an HCI fuel injected one and it was only slightly faster than the others. they may have all kinds of torque but they dont rev high without taring into the bottom end.
Its all personal preference....Im not against whats right im not for whats wrong, i just want to go fast and be gone! The issue i see about this is not so much having an LS motor in a fox but why?????? Its cheaper to do a 302/351 to make power! It only takes 220rwhp to propel a properly equipped fox into the 12 second zone! Now you guys know how much it takes to get a fox to put down 220rwhp......! The foxbody mustang is the pinnacle or epitimy if you will, of bang for the buck performance! Anyone who says otherwise is just ignoring the facts! There is a reason why these cars are still sought after so much...not for their looks, fuel economy , power.....but for their EASE of modification!
yep That is the point i was trying to get across! That has gone down hill somewhat since 96 due to the modular program but is still high up there thanks to technology and boost!
In then end, you put a hell of alot of money and blood, sweat and tears into putting an LS1 in a mustang, but what does it prove? You might as well wear a sign saying "Hey look at me, I like to make an ass of myself to **** people off" Its no better than a Honda Civic with a wing that looks like it could take off from an airport. If Chevy's are so great why bother with puting the LS1 in a mustang to begin with. It'd be cheaper and a hell of alot easier just to add boltons to the 5.0. Crossbreading is just wrong.
I have to admit, there's a 53 Ford F100 in town, it's down right perfect. But when you look under the hood there's an engine with the distributor on the wrong end. I only had to ask the guy, why he installed his engine backwards but kudos on the restoration job. If it were me, I'd dump in a little 351/408 in there. His goal was to make a show truck though, not a track only car. My dad thinks it's retarded to put effort into fitting a GM motor into a Ford "Son are you on crack?"
89 stang, when my 289 was in my 65 and keep in mind it was stock i never lost to a stock 5.0. or stock camaro. I got beat by a couple 347's and 5.0's with h/c/i. And got crushed by a s/c ws6. im just trying to get the point across that you dont need a chevy motor in your fox. My biggest advantage is that i dont run out of power until 6,000 grand. 289's like to rev more than 302's, 305's, 350's, and 351's
Man, that is absolutely sick. I've thought about that swap alot. I'm normally mor eof a fan of the later model RX7s, but yours makes it look real good.
Why does everyone type my name as 89stang??? lol Anyways i think everyone know's you don't need a GM motor in a ford to make power. If that were true i wouldn't be rebuilding my 306, but what is true is the LS1 i was looking at swapping in is a better motor then a 302 ever thought of being. Again i could give a **** less about brand loyalty that's retarded. A better motor is a better motor period. And i'm not talking about a 350 either i'm talking about an LS1 they are 2 completely different motors. I could duplicate the motor in our TA and put it in my fox and have a very tame driving car that is packing close to 450rwhp on a simple 75shot of nitrous. I could not do that with a 306 without going with some kind of FI or a big shot of nitrous. Not to mention a pretty radical H/C/I combo on there too.
Do what ever you want...do a good job and I'll throw tons of support your way, hack it and expect bashing, nature of the hobby.
i would rather have an ls1 then a japan engine in a foxbody or any mustang for that matter, i dont hate japanese cars but its just bad taboo. Like the mustang gods shall striketh down on thee with suck insolence or something......
