I think something is up with the car. Everytime I take off I hear the most aweful racket under the car. Kind of a screech. Seems like the car doesn't want to go anywhere and it is smoking like crazy. It did this again today, so I stopped trying to get it to go and got out to look. There were 2 huge black marks on the road behind me about 13" wide. What would cause this? Is this normal?

are the marks about the same distance apart as your tires? notice any more wear on the tires? the smoke, does it smell like burning rubber? got any pics of the black marks on the road behind you?

maybe you should take your foot off the brake before flooring it ...

    just a thought

Yeah, my car has been known to have the same symptoms. I called around and most shops said it is a design flaw right from Ford. You either have to live with it or buy a honda.

    I just live with it.

It's a problem with excessive torque through the drivetrain. On rare occasions it causes the tires to spontaneously combust and emit a huge cloud of white smoke. Often times this causes a serious medical condition for the driver know as leadfootitis. There is no known cure, but you can control this illness by driving a Honda.

And Chris, WTF man! I don't need no stinkin' brakes! Up the tire pressure a little and tach her high. That is all.

    Wait just a minute

I've heard about this dysfunction before. Let me ask SeventyMach, when this happens, does it make you feel bigger, uh, you know, there. Ah Hah!!!! I know what it is. Your gas pedal is too loose. Tighten it up, and the noise should go away.

Sheesh, this auto troubleshooting thing isn't that difficult....
