Hurst Billet Shifter - Latest edition

hey man, sorry to hear that. I've got this video of my Hurst Billet, not sure why it did not occur to me to post it until now.... I had just recently posted it on another shifter thread... anyhow. This is a Hurst Billet, you can see if it shifts any differently than yours. Also, I have Royal Purple Synchromax in the tranny, and that DID help a lot. You may want to try it. Though, if your not happy with it already.. The RP will should help, but I dont know that it is a silver bullet.

your shifter moved into reverse like nothin!

mine takes a good amount of force and it makes a loud almost grinding click with it engages in any gear.

it shifts like bang, bang, bang...

but under very light feather soft throttle i can granny shift it.

I dunno. I keep going back to the transmission oil. If you have the time, its only a few bucks to change out the oil. Even just new oil might help, if you dont want to spring for the Royal Purple.

The stock shifter has longer throws, so its giving your synchros more time to mesh. With the new shifter, it sounds like the synchros just arent meshing. Proper gear oil has a lot to do with making sure the synchros are able to get up to speed. It needs to be sticky enough, but still provide lubrication.

That just doesn't sound right man. I haven't replaced the tranny oil in mine and I don't have that issue at all either.

mine buzzed, rattled what ever, i pull the black plate off the top and sprayed white grease down in it and on it bolted it back on and the buzzing is gone that was 30,000 plus miles ago

The black plate on top that the shifter stops are screwed in to, there are 4 allen bolts that hold it on.

The Hursts are always having problems, making noise, falling apart. Save your money and buy the MGW or Pro 5.0.

I have loved mine other than this buzzing. Hardly worth the difference to me since I only paid $100 for the Hurst Billet.

i found that mine vibrates more now that iv put my 93 octane tune on. yeah its noisy but i just figured it was just the added power from the engine. i dont know. if it doesnt hurt anything and its shiftin fine i wouldnt replace it. unless the noise is driving you crazy.

+1 on the MGW. Very adjustable and precise without being notchy. You'll love it!

just returned back to stock. the girl friend is much happier driving without the hurst.

I would agree with this. Until Hurst works out there rattling issues, I believe MGW is the best at the moment. They also have a new model for the S197's and I have heard nothing but rave reviews about it.

With 500 hp to the wheels MGW is the only shifter that allows me to consistantly hit third without thinking about it at all and I've driven more than a million standard shift miles. You just shove the shifter forward at any rpm and it just drops right in gear.

I just buzzed 2nd gear today on my 1-2 shift against some blown Bonneville. I hate when I miss 2nd gear like that! I have the billet Hurst, too.

I think I just need to pay more attention and make sure my left foot is on the floor when I yank that stick back.

After what seemed like forever, I got it into 2nd, and proceeded to stay ahead of him.

I suppose ANY shifter you have in your car will miss 2nd or 3rd, if you're not paying attention...but I will say the Hurst is a bit notchy. And I don't really feel like taking the thing out and re-installing something else.
