I installed my Hurst Comp/Plus Short Shifter today and all in all it was pretty painless. Jacked up the front, placed 2 jack stands underneith, blocked the back wheels and started away. Wasn't able to take any picutures of the process (camera is away on a trip) but I followed this install: Ford Muscle Hurst Shifter Install

I think the most difficult part (once I figured out slipping the new clutch into place was putting on the rubber boot...hehe.

I can't really explain how much of a difference a short throw shifter makes but wow it really ups the "sport" feel. Not too notchy and no up and down slop at all. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd is right online, perfect.

If you are starting out with upgrades make sure it includes a short shifter, and the hurst has a great nastalgic look to it.

I installed one a week after having the car. It will break in along with the shift mechanism in the tranny and reduce the notchy feeling. I'm sure the other aftermarket shifters are as good but this one really fits the cars retro styling.

I'm with you guys.. After a week with the new Hurst in, It would feel odd to be without it now.
The short throws easily adds 50HP in my mind :)
the white ball also makes me feel special, I swear I can't take my hand off of it while I drive..

I had a Hurst Comp Plus in my Z 28 and loved it, installed the factory shifter before I sold it and then the difference was really noticable. The white ball rattled like hell though, do they on these under hard aceleration?

No rattle yet, there is also a spacer screw that goes on the shifter stick first that you can tighten against the ball. Very good fit.

The shifter ball is larger than the stock, feels great in the hand. :nice:

    Shifter

I installed the same shifter. Very solid, with a short throw. Looks like the old days when we were rodding in the 50's. A great improvement over the factory shifter. My tranmission stll feels a little rough from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. Have you had a simular experience?

Compared to stock it has that notchy feeling, although I prefer it myself. We will see how it smooths out overtime, but I am not too worried if it doesn't.

I ordered mine a week ago and UPS lost it, but I should have a replacement by friday. All the reviews on it sound good!

i have been happy with my hurst too but sometimes miss the ease of the stock shifter. was under the car the other day and decided to undo the linkage and try a little lithium grease and it really made a difference. it's the best feeling short throw i have owned.

I've had mine in for about 3 months now and I love it except I think the hand is a little to high for me.

anyone have the problem of the upper part of the shifter (that connects with the two bolts) to the lower part..........gets loose because (i think its a design flaw that there are not nuts the hold it in place)??????????

anyone added nuts to the screws on the otherside?
    or maybe locktite?
