ok last night was my first time at the track and my reactions were super bad,i raced against two of my friends and they can't believe the 1/8et,that's why i need to ask the experts here!!!....i gonna write down my friends' and my test and tune times. mustang gt mustang bullit winner my times my friend's times*1 .4880 reaction .1786 2.2427 60 ft 2.2037 6.1043 330 ft 6.1760 9.1961 1/ 8 et 9.4473 79.62 1/8 mph 75.28 finish margin .0585 mustang gt mustang gt winner my times my friend's times*2 .5415 reaction .0373 2.3659 60 ft 2.4646 6.2484 330 ft 6.3980 9.3428 1/8 et 9.5560 79.62 1/8 mph 78.29 finish margin .2910 as you can see my ets are better but my reaction are really bad and we don't belive my times beacause they won the races, can anybody explain this to me?. thanks in advanse
Your reaction time has absolutely nothing to do with your E/T time. The reaction time measures from the time the green light hits to the time the front end of your car crosses the first laser. Your E/T time measures how fast you are from the first laser to the last laser. So, you can sit there for like five seconds, and still run the exact same 1/8 mile E/Ts you have been running. So yes, your friends beat you down the track because they have a better reaction, but you have the faster car. Advice for your next trip: When you see the last yellow light, hit the gas. It will give you a good reaction time...if you wait for the green light, your body can't react fast enough. The second I see the last yellow, I hit the gas, and I consistently pull .1 reaction times. In fact, the other day I pulled a reaction time of .0007.
thanks man that answer my question perfectly, and also thanks for the advise, and i'm going to try that next time i go i can tell that u are a great driver.
I've had years and years of experience perfecting my hand/eye coordination through video games. What do ya know, it finally paid off in my reaction times.
the thing that stands out to me is the 60' times. they are absolutely horrible. for street tires, you should be around 2.0-2.1 seconds for 60'. i am at consistent 2.05 sixties with the stock 235 pirellis. i lower the pressure to about 22psi and launch under 2000 rpm, otherwise i just spin.
you should remember that this was my first time at the track i'm going to try what you told me too, I have the stock tires too so it should work for me too...thanks for the advise, another question does that under 2000rpm apply for automatic too? Posted via Mobile Device
i am not familiar with the auto. kooldawg should be able to help out with auto specific tips. i was not knocking you personally with the horrible comment. my first time out was similar to yours, except i had a 10 second car! too bad it was still in the eighth mile. practice is by far the best tip i can offer. the more times i have been to the track, the better i have become. you can read everything in the world, but experience is the best learning tool. you will find what works for you and your car at your track.
thanks for the advise....like u say there is nothing that's gonna led me to perfection like experience, I appreciate all ur help Posted via Mobile Device
Actually, those short times aren't bad really. Short times definitely depend on track prep, and if he doesn't have any suspension mods, that can make a difference. Even with a few mods, the lowest I ever got on stock tires was high 2.1's. As stated above, RT has nothing to do with ET. If you're trying to race heads up, then it matters. But as far as racing for times, it means nothing if you're just racing for fun. The only time it comes into play is if you start competing. Of course, it definitely it something you will want to work on, but right now, work on getting a good launch. Once you have that down, then worry about your RT.
thanks man I like when people give good advises... I know all this come from people with more experience than me so i'll put in practice, thanks stang family Posted via Mobile Device
With the auto and stock converter all you need to do is launch at idle. I've tried using the parking brake and picking the RPMs up to about 1500, but with some extra power, the radials can't hold it and you start to roll forward and red light. Late last year, I got a set of MT ET Streets and I was able to get up near 2000 RPM with the parking brake, but my times didn't improve at all. Sticky tires are about the only thing that will get your 60' times down a few tenths if the track isn't prepped good. With the MTs aired down to the minimum 12 psi, I can get consistent 1.8s in the 60' Just keep going and practicing and hopefully it pays off Here is a video of my idle launch and still able to really scoot going down the track <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://img.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v333/PRO50SC/Track%20videos/Mason%20Dixon%204-4-09/NVMC%204-4-09/Picture037.flv">
Here is a good link on the subject. cut a good light You will be way ahead of the game if you can consistently cut a great light. I don't know what kind of tree light you race from but if it is the one that lights up 3 yellow like 1..2..3..green then pay attention to the 3rd yellow . I mean watch it as if it is going to try to kill you and you have to take off as soon as it barely starts to glow to save your life. I have cut a few perfect lights with a very slow car with skinny tires that spin . the key is knowing your car and how long it actually takes it to move forward. also be sure to stage the car the same way every time so you can get a reference point.( some tire wheel setups allow for over a few inches to play with because it blocks the starting line beam more than some tires due to tire diameter and the psi of the tire allows more tire to touch the ground .) A pro tree is almost the same method but all three yellow light are ready to kill you all at once. get pumpt and be on high alert . I also like to punch the air and yell and throw my body back in my seat all at once when I launch
wow that's what I would call a go teacher i can't wait to hit the track and run away from that killer. thanks man! Posted via Mobile Device
