Intake manifold differences?

  • Sponsors (?)

I can tell you from looking at many dyno charts some tendencies or trends
I've seen when looking at different intakes used.

I'll focus my comments to street applications here
and
I'll stick to the most popular choices used :D

Lets start with TFS & Edelbrock :)

The difference between them is not all that great but I believe in most
cases the Edel will edge out the TFS by a small margin.

Now ... both of these brands offer a long and mid length runner upper

The longer runner choice of either will offer a bit more low end torque :nice:
but
Will peter out sooner in the high end of the power curve :notnice:

The mid length choices will do just the opposite

Another popular choice is the oem Cobra

Nice low end torque but it falls off pretty quick :bang:
however
Some have been able to help its high end with porting ;)

i read a lot of books and the edelbrock performer always seems to come out on top. the holley systemax is supposed to be the highest flowing but you lose a lot of torgue

The reason you don't see more Edel intakes is simply because .....
you can run a TFS for less money.

The difference in performance is not all that great

however

Something a lot of peeps don't consider

A lot of the time ... Edels can be run with NO spacer
I did that very thing with my combo :)

Soooo ... you then gotta ask yourself ...
whats the difference in cost when you add in the spacer ;)

Ive always been curious about the runner size, runner length, and tbody opening of each intake versus another. Like the Trickflow street intake has a 75mm opening, 15" inch runners and 2.0 x1.2 runner size, where is the trackheat has a 75mm opening, 12" runners and 2.0 x1.2. I never could find the runner size, tbody opening, or length on the holley systemax or other intakes. I know though longer runner intakes produce better torque down low,but fall short in the higher rpms. Shorter runners produce more power at higher rpms, but fall a bit short in torque .I believe runner size has alot to do with it though to,seeing as how well the performer intake performs against others.I'm always open for learning more on performance.
