Jerks Into Gear

Thanks for the info.

I'm wondering if your idle speed is too high. Do you have access to a datalogger like an XCal2 or XCal3? If you have a buddy with an XCal for a Ford, it will datalog your vehicle, too.

Are there any other shifting issues? How about putting the transmission in Reverse (does it jerk)?

How many miles on the car? Driven normally or by a bunch of teenage boys and their friends?

Good point! I let the engine warm up for about 30 seocnds - that's the time it takes for the idle speed to come down to 'high normal'. Once a little temperature builds, the idle settles in at normal.

Has the transmission been rebuilt? If so, some friction material may still be stuck in the bore(s) of the valve body. Not the big accumulators but the little valves that are in the valve body.

A datalogger will tell you a lot. Without "seeing" what is going on at start-up, you will spend a lot of time guessing and/or replacing parts. Do you know anybody nearby who has a datalogger/laptop?
