The old IBM T-series laptops are bulletproof. You'll do fine with a clean install of XP on it. I had a T-21, a model older than that, and it made for a great "on the road" beater laptop.

cool nice to see someone with one, ya im leaning towards xp , (stripped down with all the useless junk, as recommended by others.). im still considering windows 2000 but xp has better drive support and should prove to be less trouble sum.

Stick with XP. That T-21 will run it fine.

    I used mine for over 6 years. I have a new beater now....a T-42.

I'd bump the RAM up to 512 if I was running XP, but that's a steal for that laptop. I have an extra PC2100 256MB SODIMM that came out of my HP that might work in it if you're interested. I'll be more than happy to give it to ya if it's compatible, it's just sitting here unused. I bumped my RAM to a gig. Shoot me a PM if ya want it.

Edit: It's Samsung memory if that makes any difference?

That's ok...I use a P2-266mhz Laptop (dell) for mine. I got it for $300 about 4 years ago.

I'm gunna be different and say go with win2k.

It takes up less space, has less frills, and is faster due to those reasons.
If you're only gunna be using it for tuning, remove everything unneeded from it [iexplorer, games, apps, etc...], there's really even no need to run the update wizard since security won't be an issue as long as you don't use it to go online.
