from what ive been reading, a catback isnt going to add much- if any- hp or torque gains over just changing mufflers.. so.. what would be the benefit to going full catback over weld in's? i must be missing something because most people advise going with the catback.

any thoughts?

a lot of people get cat-backs because you're upgrading that entire section of your exhaust from 2 1/4" to 2 1/2". also you can get a stainless steel mandrel-bent cat-back if rust/longevity/better flow is a concern. it wont yield much. if any, power over weld-ins.

so assume that a catback is just a mod to, for lack of a better word, " piggyback" on another mod for gains?

what ive pick up from some posts ..mufflers - about 2hp, catback- about 5-7hp, an h or x pipe- 12 or so. i guess catback and h pipe would be about 15 if you are lucky

^^^yeah, piggy-backs a good term for it. any aftermarket x or h-pipe is gonna be 2 1/2", so it would be more beneficial going into the same diameter instead of a smaller pipe. if you get 15hp out of a mid pipe and cat-back combo, thats probably better than expected

hmmmm... almost seems like an sct or diablo would be a better investment at this point. then go for some mufflers just for the sound rather than the hp gains for the extra money.
