I have an 89' and installed a manual rack, after a couple of years of tougher steering, my tilt column now has a rediculous amount of play. I took off the column covers, and can see that it is just from the tilt portion up...not the whole column, although I cant find any worn or broken parts to replace. I tried tightening the 2 bolts, but that doesnt seem to help. Anyone else had this problem or a fix for it?...I thought of installing a 90+ column, but Id rather keep the tilt if possible. Thanks.

as i recall, there are 2 more bolts to tighten up. there is an internet article floating around - i tightened two bolts but omitted tightening the other two.

    good luck.

I replaced those bolts with some small grade 8 bolts down at homedepot, german torque'd them and its nice and tight! LOL when i first bought my car i could move the wheel up and down about 7" was weird driving.
