Max tire size

Hello, I have the stock 17 inch bullits. I'm short on cash and I need two tires. A buddy of mine has a nice new set. But the size is 255/55/17. The tire size I have been using is 245/45/17. Could I get away with putting these tires on. Could I damage the tire. Or create an unsafe driving condition. Or will it affect performance.

You will be OK with them, just ride a bit higher like a 4X4 and the speedo will be off a little.
