Why didn't I listen when people told me a 30 year old car without the original stuff was going to be trouble Oh well, I love it anyway. Heres the problem. My radiator now has a hole in it. The mech bolted my electric fan TOO the radiator, well now one of the sides has come loose. Over the past week when I drive I've noticed some steem or something coming out of the hood and I couldnt figure out where it was coming from. I thought it was this oil leak or something. I also have oil up around my manifold, dont know what that is either *comments?* So anyway back on topic. I was driving yesterday and my car was starting to overheat *my electric fan hasnt been coming on either* So I drove home, checked out everything. I noticed the fan didnt come on when I turned off my car as usual. Anyway checked my antifreeze it was all good. Well I forgot to put the cap on all the way and that was a problem cuz later I had antifreeze all over. But thats when I found that the fan had come loose and when you lift up on it antifreeze poors out. So now my car is parked til my dad can have the time to look at it.
If you have oil around your manifold it is most likely your valve covers. That is a common problem caused by tightening the valve cover bolts too much. It is easily fixed, either by getting new valve covers or taking your old sheetmetal ones and straightening out the flange. I used a short piece of 2x4 to lay the flange on then beat it straight with a hammer. If you have oil around the front of the block (dist, timing cover) or in back (bellhousing) then it is the intake manifold gaskets... another common problem with the Ford 302. As for your radiator, now let me get this correct... your mechanic drilled holes into the actual radiator to mount the fan? If that's the case I would make the mechanic pay for the fix... that is a stupid thing to do. If you have anyone who knows how to solder copper pipes, etc then they can probably dent the hole, then fill it with lead. d
Dmoody: I would think the tech just ran like zip-ties or bolts through the fins, and secured it that way. Megan: If its a small leak, you can pour black pepper down the fill. (and get ) If its bigger and easily accessable, you can try to solder it. Or you can remove it, and have a rad. shop do it. (probably about 60 bux) Sorry to hear about all the trouble. . . . . . . . Of course, yours is running.
