Watched the "new and improved" Foose version of Overhaulin' last night and I was not impressed. Foose can certainly design and build a car but he is no TV producer. I found the new show dull, missing the spark of the previous seasons. From the opening credits to the reveal the new show was missing excitement, I found myself fast-forwarding thru segments which I never did before.
Also, it seemed to me that the build was nowhere near as organized as the last seasons. Parts were wrong, missing (maybe they just edited that out of the older shows) and in general seemed like a cluster-f**k. Maybe that was because the build highlights shown resolved more around build problems then solutions. In another forum a guy who said he was a builder on a couple of builds more or less echoed what I saw on the episode last night. The normal sense of urgency in the build seemed to be missing as well. I did like the that they introduced the builders and said what team they were on. The Mustang turned out nice in the end; but why did they stick a T-10 4spd in it? Couldn't find a 5 spd?
I will still watch the show it's not the same. I never thought I would say this but last nights show had me missing the pranks.

i also felt that something was missing, but you can only pull the same pranks just so many times before they also become routine. i kind of like the new direction the show is heading, but there is no urgency that kept things on the edge either.

As far as the Mustang itself, I think they did the best paint/exterior job I have seen on that show, at least for a Mustang. Those brushed bumpers, and the dark green metallic/orange stripe/silver hood and deck were very well done, as was the orange wheel stripe. Nice engine choice for that body style, but yeah, the Toploader was the result of a rush and an early mistake on their part.

Anyway, very nice paint job and the family story was very touching - brotherly love FTW! The girlfriend and I were touched . . .

I do to some degree, but enjoy seeing the design aspect of Foose more than anything. I find myself just fast-forwarding most the time to see what they are doing on the build. lol

As for this Mustang, it was pretty nicely done. Never been a fan of green, but it looked good. The Silver and Orange parts on the hood I could of done without. I know he wanted to do something different, but stripes would of looked better IMO.

Loved that brushed trim though, and the brushed look of the silver paint. Would love to see how that looked in person.

I'm not saying I liked the pranks and ideally I'd like the show to be without them, but last nights episode would have benefitted from them, something, anything. Yes the old show was predictable with the pranks but overall the old show had more "energy" for lack of a better term. The episode last night was a flat as day old beer.
Also, I can do without the deserving part. Call me cold hearted and callous but I couldn't care less why the "mark" was chosen, just show me a build and make it interesting.

The tranny they put in wasn't even a toploader, it was a T-10. If he really drives this car that T 10 won't last.

i really loved the car since i'm working on a 66 coupe, but the show seemed lackluster compared to previous seasons. don't exactly know if was the music,no COURTNEY or AJ,or the lack of pranks.

I actually did not like the car. I thought the color wasn't a good combination, mostly because of the orange. Kind of a boring car and show for me. Did you notice they didn't take the car out for a drive or play the stereo. I wonder how much they didn't finish?

i for one thought the car was very cool and i really liked the ideas Chip came up with on this one....i'd be willing to bet that as everyone (the build team, Foose, etc) get's used to the new format the show will get better and better. this one was a little on the bland side but i think it will get much better as the season goes on.

I won't be able to see the show until June, when I get back from Germany.

I never could understand why "they" can't generate a "this old car" format, like this old house, with that Bob Vila?
Even if it was along the lines of Tim Taylor, there is no reason we can't get an hour of sponsored restoration tips, sheet metal, etc.....

They just need another cute hostess. It's much better without wasting time on the hijinx stuff. It's cool to see that the pros have their issues as well.

And the intro car actually starts off as a 57 Chevy.

It started as a 56 (or 55, don't remember) and was transformed into a 57. It bugged me everytime it came on.

YES YES! I'm looking forward to all of the auto progamming, just as soon as I get back stateside!!
I don't have speed, but I liked Stacey on trucks.

And speaking of TV car shows, did they ever finish the Challenger, or road race Mustang??
