Im thinking of going with a set of white stripes and after about 3 days worth of thinking ive decided i want to paint them on. There is only one problem however. Say i want to take off my stripes, do i have to repaint the whole car? Sorry for the noob question ive never thought id ever put stripes on a car.
You would have to have the front bumper cover, hood, roof (if not a vert) deck lid and rear bumper cover sanded, painted and re-clearcoeated. Painted stripes are really way nicer than vinyl tape. I doubt you would want to remove them!
Why don't you call a couple of dealers and ask about that? I had vinyl on mine and changed over to paint and clear a few months later. Stone pony is right, the paint and clear is way nicer. You would have to sand the top and bumpers with 1000 grit and repaint and clear those areas to change it back. If the stripe job is done right with paint, the dealer might like it.
yea, usually aftermarket stuff hurts you on a lease, but it is a mustang, and if done right stripes may help the dealer sell the car in the future, so they may like em if you do it, but like anthony said, call em up first.
the dealership i work at does not keep lease turn ins. they get parked in the back, and wait to be shipped off for lease return. i heard that they go back to the manufacturer, but i how true that is.
high jacking! Sorry for taking this a little off topic but how much have you guys with painted stripes paid for them, if you don't mine sharing that of course.
One thing you have to keep in mind about doing full stripes is that any shop can bang them out quickly, but they won't look that good. There is so much work that goes into a quality job that most people do not realize. All of the light fixtures on the bumper and trunk lid should be removed along with the rear badge, windshield squirters, roof trim, front fascia should come off too. All of the parts must be sanded with 600-1000 grit to scuff up the finish. Taping a full striped car will take hours to ensure straight, clean lines. they have to shoot the stripe color, peel the tape, shoot the clear, wet sand and buff, then reassemble all the parts. Some guys insist on wet sanding after the first clearcoat is applied then shooting another clearcoat to add more depth and to be sure the stripes absolutely cannot be felt by touch. If the paint shop doesn't have a modern booth with good ventilation, all painted parts that can be removed for paint should be removed because overspray will get on your wheels, other body panels, etc., no matter how good they tape off the rest of the car. I paid $1200 to do it right or at least close to right and I worked with the guy because I know him. You could expect to pay as much as $3000 for a quality job.
I'm getting the vinyl installed on Tuesday on my '06. I know, I know - many insist on paint - but I figure this way I can make sure first for a minimal investment. I can always go paint later, but if I start that way it is very expensive to change, especially since everything costs so much more here in England. Just my thoughts.
That's cool, I did the same thing. I installed the vinyl to be sure I liked the color. When I painted them on later, I decided to add a bit of pearl gold to the silver and it looks great.
Hey bernie where are you getting your stripes installed? i have thought about the same route due to the exchange rate
