Searched, couldnt find an answer. Looking to buy my frist v8 domestic car (have only owned imports before) and im looking at an 01 GT (5sp). Question is, when i went to see it i played with the throttle on the motor to rev it and i notice it moves alot while revving. It kinda looks like it has that old school shaker effect (like the mach 1's but without the hood scoop). At first i thought it needed new motor mounts but the owner said it doesnt. Its just TOO noticeable for me to just look past it. Is this shaking normal? sorry if its a dumb question im just new to v8 muscle and it could be all the power coming from the v8 that makes that shaking. Thanks in advance.

ya both sides of the engine should jerk when you rev it.
I mean if its a violent shake than some would say its the mounts, but overall its normal.

I think its pretty normal...My mach 1 & every other mustang I have owned did this same thing. My car only has 40K on it now, so I doubt the motor mounts are bad, but I did replace the motor mounts on my 97 Cobra @ 95k miles because they were trashed. How many miles does the car have currently?

sale pending :-D!! its a 2001 GT with 81k miles, only mods are some kind of STS and borla catback. Has saleen wing and real Cobra R rims. Ran a carfax, its a 1 owner car and its in pretty good condition physically. Hes selling it for around KBB trade in value. I heard these motors can take a beating, and last a while to boot. Thanks guys i feel more at ease now the problem is to try and convince my dad that is NORMAL. he hates fords =(

Well, it depends with the shaking. If it shakes a good bit at idle then replacing the mounts is a good idea. Reason I say that is because on my 98 GT, I was noticing that the motor would shake more than seemed normal (keeping in mind that I had the car since it was new) ... But it wasn't causing any issues so I didn't bother with it. Then I started to have my driveshaft rubbing on the underside of the car and was really sketchy. I checked TONS of stuff and just figured I'd replace the motor mounts (ain't gonna hurt) .. Sure enough they were both shot and I mean SHOT!

After replacing them, my motor runs so smooth that its crazy .. It still jumps some because its a V8 but it is night and day. With the one you are looking at, as long as it isn't crazy jumping then its straight. And even if you have to replace the mounts, no big deal. I did mine myself in the garage (took a while but wouldn't again) ...

    Welcome to the forums. :)

there are alot of taxi cabs and police cars running around (crown vics) with 200,000 (very rough) miles on them or more.

    guess what engine they're running?

mine doesnt move at all  tried that in first and second gear and unlike my gsx when i get on it and the entire drivetrain moves, the GT's shifter stayed in the same spot.

only time i can feel the engine/tranny shift is during a hard turn, where it feels like the chassis is twisting and the motor and tranny are staying the same. but it has to be a large turn and i have to be pushing hard (like going balls to the wall on a sloped onramp that takes about a 270* turn before hitting the freeway, every morning in my case:nice: )
