I want a 331 stroker but it will have to wait until I can afford a better block then stock. With the setup I have and adding a stroker to the mix, it wouldn't last a minute.
All it takes is a seasoned block. Get one from a junk yard and it will be about $500 with all the machining! Then just assemble the stroker short block.
Even "seasoned" 302 factory blocks are only good to about 500 at the tires. They have this issue of splitting throught the mains. I have two with that issue sitting in the floor here. I know companies like DSS claim they do special stuff to make them live longer but, in reality you can't change the casting strength. To go further you need either a original Boss 302 block, new Ford racing Boss 302 block, A4, R302, or Dart block. You can get by with a Mexican block if you don't plan on going past about 650 rwhp. I have one of the rare mexican 351 blocks! Bad thing is that it isn't any stronger than a 70 model 351w block.
I was about to say the same thing Scott. Thanks for making it simple! lol.... a stock block even seasoned is good to 600-650 at the flywheel. I've seen them split right down the center with anymore then that put to them
I added up my receipts about a year ago. "Its Not Good" but I'm not saying how much. My wife looks at the Forums occasionally. "Hi Honey" RandyP
I'm lucky in one way! Mine knows most was spent before she came in the picture. She had one of those "faint" moments when she found out how much one of the motors cost me a few years ago!
I had $13k in my '96 saleen, I had about $7k in the 01 saleen (mainly engine rebuild), had about $3k in the '87 saleen, and I've owned a 2000 gt, 88 gt, 98 cobra, and now hte 96 mystic...im done adding crap up
I don't want to total everything thats in my '88. Easy $20k-25k in the motor alone. With everything else
