Here is the deal......i currently own a "03 GT coupe premium..(Silver)....FULLY loaded.....I even have the Mach 1000 audio system.....i only have 6800 miles on it....i have 3 years left on my lease....i was thinking of trading it in for a 04 Mach 1 (screaming yellow)....I would have to lease it for 5 years and the payments would be $135 more a month from where im at now.........Should i get the Mach 1 or wait for the 05 GT???

The Gt would definitely be more money (no $2500 rebate like the Mach)

On the other hand if i do get the Mach in 3 months or so when the 05 GT is released i will feel like i have an old car and ill be in the hole for 5 years!

What do you guys recommend i do?

Thank you very much....It means ALOT

I was really having a hard time deciding if I wanted to go ahead & get a Mach 1 or wait for an '05. I posted on another site & everyone who posted back said to wait. My husband says to wait. Even the salesperson I'm buying from & her manager said to wait. Now, that was weird - the dealer wanting me to wait?!?!? She went in & asked her manager about the Mach 1 & asked if he thought I should wait. She said he got a big grin on his face & said "yeah, she should wait". :D As much as they wanted to sell me the Mach 1, they think I would be sorry if I didn't get the '05.

I drove the Mach 1 & really liked it but - I agree with you, when the '05 comes out I'm gonna feel like it's old.

Plus, I really like the way the '05 looks - it's just so awesome. Of course I was looking at a dark grey Mach 1 & it was kinda hard to see the Mach 1 stripes. It was beautiful, but it almost looked like any other stang except for the hood from a distance. The Screaming Yellow LOOKS like a Mach 1 - no mistaking it!! :nice:

Either way - you'll like what you get. IMHO

I have definately decided that I am going to wait for the '05 GT. It was a hard decision, but I think I would be kicking myself if I didn't. It's gonna be a long wait now. :bang:

Well, good luck with your decision & I hope you get what you want.

This was my deciding factor, own a Classic, or 1 of 150,000. Theres only about 2000 Screamin yellow Mach 1's out there. I own the Screamin Yellow Mach 1, its a head turner and a performer. I love the way it handles, and I love the exceleration. For me the Mach 1 is just the perfect mustang; Its quick, its beautiful, it turns heads, and there arn't a whole lot on the road. You have to ask yourself also, if your gonna keep the car, 20 years from now whats gonna be worth more? The limited edition Mach or the 2005 Mustang. If you have to oppertunity to own a Mach I say go for it, you'll never have that chance again, but if you want something new and diffrent, wait around a while. Either way you can't go wrong, they are both killer looking cars, but just ask yourself, would u like the car thats a little rare or the one thats a new body style. I decided to go with rare ( And 0% APR) not only because of the fact, but cause I think the Mach is a beautiful car and I wanted to own not just a Mustang GT, but a car part of its own unique heritage, history and reputation. I'm very happy with my decision, for me my Mach 1 is my dream mustang, flashy with a nice dose of power.

My friendly suggestion would be to get out of the hole with your current car and work towards an '06 or an '07.

I would say wait. Sure there is the collectibility of the mach 1. But how long did you keep your last car? The mach 1 will hold it's value a little longer. But you'll be have more miles on it. And there has been rumor of Ford offering a $1500 incentive on the 05. Why are you leasing for 5 years? I realize it's cheaper. But for the extra money. You'll own the car in5 years.

The skinny as I see it. You have to ask yourself the following questions:
Do I want to drive or collect cars?
Do I want to own or lease forever?
What is really keeping me from waiting?

    Answers:
If you want to drive your car - choose the 05, collectibles with 200K miles are not that impressive.
If you want to own the vehicle one day, wait the extra time for the 05 and make a few more payments are the current vehicle. It will be less to swallow in the long run.
If the 05 were out today, would you still have this dilema? If the answer is no, then I suggest you wait. NOTHING IS MORE EXPENSIVE THEN REGRET. Believe it sister.

First i wanted to say thanks to all of those who replied to my thread...

I think im going to get the Mach 1 tomorrow....Im getting money back on Rebates so thats why im not getting hurt in breaking the lease...im about $1500 upside down...not that bad...im also getting the Mach for $100 over invoice....There is no way i will be able to get a deal like that on an "05........

There is something about this Mach 1 (screaming yellow) that just hooks me ...This will be my 4th stang in 5 years and there is just something about it....it looks so ******* awesome!

Even when the 05 GT does come out it will not be able to take the Mach 1...stock wise it is unreal IMO..the exhaust sound is rocking...car just looks so damn good...from the black shaker to the black spoiler..i have to have this car...i wish there were some real pics of the 05 GT in screaming yellow

I lease....no need to own...i see it this way...its cheaper, ALWAYS sign and drive (never $ out of pocket). To lease for 5 years gets my payments down DRAMATICALLY...i will probably wind up trading it in after 3 years to lease a new GT...By then all the kinks should e worked out.

I know Ford...by the 2007 model they will probably up the HP on it.

    What do you guys think?

Four Mustangs in five years? No offense, but have you done the math on all the money you've pissed away? I bet if you'd kept the first one you'd be free and clear on it by now. Instead all you have is debt.

No offence guys, but the Mach 1 is not going to be much of a collectable. 18,000 - 20,000 Mach 1's is WAY too many to make them collectable. Yes they will hold value better than a run of the mill GT, but they will not appreciate.

Let's look at the production #s of past collectable Mustangs:

    1965 Shelby GT-350: 562
    1966 Shelby GT-350: 2,380
    1969 - 1970 Boss 302: Approx. 8,600
    1969 - 1970 Boss 429: Approx. 1,800

Unless you have money to burn, wait for the 05 or 06 Mustang. Buying a 2004 Mach 1 will get you the 2nd best SN-95 Mustang (SVT Cobra being the best). But the 2005 will be just the beginning of a much better car.

Hmm? 5 hp difference is nothing. The best performance time I have seen on the Mach 1 is 0-60 in 5.2 and the quarter in 13.8 @ 102 mph. That is almost identical to the initial tests of the 05 GT so I dont get how you say the GT will not be able to take the Mach 1. My problem with the Mach is that its still that current, ugly ass Mustang body style. The 05 is going to perform the same and look 10 times better inside and out, I would wait.

The mach 1 is basicaly a cobra motor (more or less). The mach1 may have a slight edge. But only 5 hp and 5 lb-ft torque. Which makes it all about the driver. Then you have the improved suspension and chassis. I'm going to bet the 05 will take the Mach1 is most all cases.

I've seen a handfull of machs run 13.3- 13.1 bone stock. Most of the 04 Mach Dyno at around 280 hp more or less putting them at 320-330FWHP. Unless the 05 is significantly lighter, I believe the Mach will have an edge in acceleration, not sure about handling, Mach come stock with Tokico and they are 3/4 of an inch lower then the current GT, seems to handle fairly well, and gets excelent traction. I feel I got an awsome deal with a Mach, probably saved some money compared to waiting for an 05, how can you beat $27,500 with 0%APR. I say get it, then in 07 or whenever, when theres actually an aftermarket for the new stang, and when there's yet another power change in GT's trade the Mach in for one of them if you please, so I feel that if anyone has a chance to own a Mach, buy it, you'll allways have a chance to buy the new model, but not the Mach..

Actually the mach 1 and mercury maurauder share engines. mach1 heads are different part numbers than cobra heads.

Machs won't ever be SUPER collectible, just mildly, Ford did build alot of them. Four Mustangs in 5 years? The potential collector's status of the Mach does not apply to you, you'll be rid of the car well before anybody cares whether they are collectible. Besides, the way you go through cars like laundry, you must be pretty fickle and impulsive when it comes to your cars. I'll bet you'll be in the dealership WAY before '07 trying to swing a deal to escape the lease on your Mach, for another new Mustang that you'll be going ga ga over just like you are with your Mach now, just like you probably were with your silver GT when you got it. Then you get used to it in a couple months, the newness wears off, and you're back out scouting the dealership showrooms again, and you finally drive a new '05 and when you get back into your Mach you realize your chassis flexes a ton and your steering is numb, and next thing you know you're sitting in the finance office signing paperwork... ;) . I used to be that way with girlfriends.... It's like a crack addiction (drugs, girlfriends, whatever...).

    a) the mach is underrated, usually puts down 280 to the wheels and b) i have seen two people post slips and vids, running verified 12.9s bone stock

The 05 GT will be a mid 13 car, but it won't be able to run with a Mach. Won't take too much to change that tho

As it has already been said, WAIT and try to buy. Leasing is the biggest waste of money- your basically renting a car, for which you will never own it, unless you buy it outright in the end, which I'm assuming you won't be able to do, otherwise you would have put that kind of money down originally and had lower payments towards ownership- Basically Wait, get out of that unforgiving lease, save some cash, and put down on a new GT. If for nothing else wait to test drive it before you make a decision. You should be able to find a few leftover '04 Mach 1's when the '05 comes out to make a more informed and better financial decision.

The problem with that is, I have heard talk of the 05 putting down the same #'s. I can't remember where I saw them. But I don't think it was in this forum. Might have been on BON.

Actually, there ARE some very good lease deals out there that come around from time to time. It really depends on how LONG you typically keep a car. But if you take a 3 year lease, often times you come out further ahead "cash-out-of-pocket" on the lease, than you would if you bought the car for cash, and then sold/traded it 3 years later, factoring in depreciation and up-front tax expenses. Like that $5-per-day lease deal Ford offered on base-model Mustangs and Ford Rangers for awhile. You couldn't beat that deal with a stick. With that deal, there's no way you could have come out ahead by buying the vehicle straight-up, unless you would want to keep the vehicle for a real long time. But, on the other hand, many other lease deals are HUGE wastes of money. You've just got to run the numbers intelligently. In the majority of cases, leases are traps that shortsighted and money-foolish people who relate EVERYTHING to "what's my monthly payment?" and nothing else, fall into. But, there are some very HOT lease deals to be had, it's just a matter of how desperate a manufacturer is to unload some inventory in a hurry.
