Removing leather dye without damaging leather

[02 281 GT]

I have an FR500 steering wheel in my car that I dyed to match the tan interior. It turned out OK, but some of the dye has been flaking off near the spokes. Anyone know of what I can use to remove the dye without damaging the leather? Would rubbing alcohol damage leather?
