Yesterday, the Saleen Store hosted the First Annual Fathers Day Concours, in the Irvine Spectrum, where the store is located. This all day and night show was not a club event but I knew of one SCOA member one whose car was accepted and going to be displayed, so I decided to stop by and check it out. There were about 30 automobiles strewn throughout the mall, grouped into categories such as American Muscle, race cars, etc. The displayed cars, old and new were very nice; I recognized several vehicles from the weekly Cars and Coffee show and the Huntington Beach Concours d’Elegance from two weeks ago. You couldn’t ask for better weather and the open-air venue guaranteed that several thousand people would get to enjoy the beautiful cars. I began my quest to find our SCOA member at the Saleen Store.

    Hmmm. Where are the Saleens?
The Saleen store offered specials on apparel and prizes for winners of the S7 simulator challenge and Saleen quiz.

The first Saleen I found was a PJ.

    Now we are talking!

What is that car in the background?

    Cool!

After traversing the entire length of the mall, I found new SCOA member Curt with his very clean, low mileage SSC.

Curt’s car provides some extreme contrast to Molly’s. The best comment I heard regarding the custom paint was “I bet that would be a special order color on a Mercedes”. So O.C.

Did I mention this car is clean?!

While I thoroughly enjoyed the five Saleens displayed at the show, I had hoped to see more. The venue would be opportune for showcasing the rich 20+ year history of Saleen production and racing vehicles. In addition to the two fine race cars, imagine being able to see premium examples from all production eras, anniversary models, etc. Maybe next year.

Looks great, I agree though, the more cars the merrier. Something like this should be open to anyone who owns a Saleen, even if only that they get to park in a cordoned off area in the parking lot.

Too bad they didn't ever make too many SR's or make the kit available, I always thought that was a fine looking machine.

    I agree with Dennis.

This show would have made more sense (& certainly would have garnered more interest from people such as myself) if it primarily featured Saleen produced vehicles. This was a perfect opportunity for the muckety mucks @ Saleen Incorporated to promote the history of the company they now own lock, stock & barrel by featuring a vehicle from every year of production; 1984 to present, including some rare examples like a Saleen Sport Truck from 1988.

Alas they decided to open it up to non-Saleen vehicles which made it just another SoCal car show. :(
