So the other day I picked up another project car (67 coupe). The car had been sitting since the owner purchased it from the original owner in 1982. The car has sat in the garage since then, along with a shed full of miscellaneous parts. One of those parts was an aluminum air cleaner that was finned, oval shaped, and stamped Shelby. The correct shelby cleaner should say Cobra. Anyone know what this one might be from? Is it some aftermarket junk that Shelby put his name on? Thought maybe someone from around that era :D might remember such a thing. Ill post a picture up tomorrow to help.

    Thanks, -Ryan

I have one on my car and they are less common than the Cobra ones. Personally, I like them better and had to search ebay for a while to find one.

That is the exact one. Are they made by shelby? Any idea if they are worth anything? Mine needs a paint job, but maybe I will throw it on Ebay if people want them. I don't think I would ever use it if it wasn't factory correct.

I'm sure some one will buy it.

Hey zookeeper, why no export brace or monte carlo bar? Very nice engine bay.

Thanks for the compliments. Actually I bought an export brace, only to find out it won't clear the rear carb.As for the Monte Carlo Bar, I plan on putting one in "someday". Also, I've seen those "Shelby " logo air cleaners go for a bit over $100 for nice ones and they are from Shelby's "over-the-counter" line of parts. As for them being "factory correct", unless your car is a real Shelby it didn't have Cobra valve covers or air cleaners anyway so shy get all wound up over originality? Stock Mustangs are boring, put som life in it and use some fun parts for Pete's sake...

Could you take the export brace and clearance it for the carb? I bet that would still be stronger than the factory 2 peice setup.

I thought about that, but decided against it for a couple reasons. First, it's chrome and so much has to be cut away (it's not even close) that it wouldn't be very strong and it would ruin the chrome and likely start rusting. Alos, I just don't drive the car very hard or very often, so tower sag is extremely unlikely at best.
