I'm going to be getting true duels soon and was wondering what looks better? side or getting a gt bumper and have them come out the back? is there a differance in the gains? and how fast are the 80-87 5.0s compared to me(2000 stang)
I personally am getting the spin tech side exhaust. I didnt want to get a GT bumper and get it painted...etc. I do like the magnaflow dual rear exhaust setup. Gains depend on the setup as well as the system you get. ie....quasi or true duals..quasi just hooks up to your y pipe..you will get better gains from a true dual setup than a quasi setup. maybe 12-15 HP gain. Your stang should be able the "hang" with some of the older Gt's...but dont bite off more than you can chew! some have pretty good torque numbers.. cheers!
I got GT take off's for my stang. I have kept my stock v6 bumper and just had the shop shim the rear hangers for the tail pipes so they hang down just a little lower to clear the rear bumper. I'll be getting a GT bumper later on when money permits. But for the mean time I was able to get away with just the exhaust and didn't have to worry about a rear bumper. Exhaust tone wise the GT takeoffs are mildly mannered. Not very loud at all. And haven’t got much of a grumble to them at idle. But they are definitely an improvement over the wimpy stock setup. People will notice it when you get on the gas but don't expect to turn heads and have people say "Oh my god!" either. From what i've read about side exhaust setups the only two negative points were. 1) You won't be able to put on sub frame connectors because the exhaust pipes will be in the way. This is only an issue if you plan on getting sub frames to stiffen up the chasi of the car. 2) You don't get as much of a HP gain from the side exit exhaust as you do with a straight out the back design. Don't know so much about this one as I really didn't feel any seat of the pants difference with the duals I got. So who knows, were only talking minimal HP gains to begin with. So don't let this be the deciding factor, but a point to be made none the less. My best advice would be to listen to lots of sound clips and then pick the exhaust that sounds best to you. In the end your the one that has to look at it and listen to it every day. So pick something you like.
sides only look good if you have side skirts with the holes in them or they look stupid poking out there, and i think sides are more stylish, and give a better sound then rears, but you will pay dearly for these few advantages...
You could get a magnaflow catback system for $300 from www.fulllineexhaust.com and get a GT bumper. It'll look like this...
went to the shop today and the guy said the 99+'s can't have sides pipes only the rear is this tru ?or a pile of bs?
bs... any GOOD shop (make sure you understand the caps on GOOD) can do anything. If you really wanted to you could buy the $150 dual side exhaust off of JC Whitney and bolt that up. CDC makes the best IMO looking side exhaust (~$1000) Spintech makes a very nice setup too (~$500)
someone that is an 01 v6 nut researches on these sort of things daily and he told me that in order to put side pipes on you will need to reroute some wiring away from the side exit pipes
someone that is an 01 v6 nut researches on these sort of things daily and he told me that in order to put side pipes on you will need to reroute some wiring away from the side exit pipes ------------------------------------------------------ I have not heard this before. The only thing I ever heard was some shops wont put duals (rear bumper) on a V6 because of the brake lines (in the way). There are quite a few V6ers out there with duals hopefully they will chime in regarding this. Like I said , Im gonna install the spintech side exhaust. I know of another V6er who had this done with no problems... Cheers!
That is true... the exhaust will bounce off the lines if not placed perfectly...but i doubt many shops will throw away business unless they either just don't like u or are already packed to the limit...
I beg to differ.......I'm now quite partial to the side exhaust, aside from the big sound difference that has shifted towards the front of the car.
Hello All, I would like your opinion. I was thinking about the true dual exhaust with a slight variation. I was thinking about the exits on the side, but behind the rear wheels. Not directly but angled down and out. With about 2 inches of chrome showing. I know it would be a little different from the standard rear and side exits. Any just a thought. Steve
All the while, the Cobra R owners are laughing their asses off at the Pre-99 V6 owner that thinks their cars look stupid.
