Stock rear gear vs. 3.55's

You had 3.27's. A noticeable difference would not necessarily be better. If you had 4.10's and went to 4.56's you would notice a difference but depending on your mods this could be good or bad for your car.

3.90's were a great gear for my vert bc 1st gear was still somewhat usefull. I know Grady says 125 rpm but every 125 adds up so depending on your driving habits it may or may not be a good change. With the 3.90's you run out of steam top end..not as early as 4.10's but again how often are you doing 100+ MPH.

When I purchased my car I had 3:23's I believe, I switched to 3:55 and got no noticeable difference. Should of gone with the 3:73 or 3:90!

Good point ... well ... With a focus on street car application

Over the years I've done all kind of ratios in cars and bikes :)

When you talk about a difference as small as 1/4 of a turn

Yes ... you'll ask yourself ... Did I do something that made a difference

You need about 1/2 of a turn to make any noticeable difference :nice:

Now ... 3/4 of a turn is certainly noticable

Thats why a lot of thought between 355's and 373's is kinda silly ;)

the difference is only .18 ... or less than ... 2/10 of a turn

I went with 3.73 and wish I went 3.90 or 4.10... I drive 100 miles a day, 50 on the highway (typically at 80-85 mph) and the remainder at @55 mph (country roads)... They are nice in traffic and on the highway...

Don't Fear The Gear!!!

BTW I have over 60k on my gears and I still love them...

What kinda rpms are ya turnin at 80mph?

I had a 308, I put a 355 in mine and I love it Huge difference.I often wonder if I should have put a 373 in it but, I drive several hundred miles a week at 80-85mph and was afraid 373 would be too much. How much is too much in a daily driver considering engine wear and fuel mileage?

i love my 373 gears. best thing i did to my car so far. it made such a big difference. its not that good on the highway like my 308s inthe aspect. 65-70 mph at 2500 rpms as i recall

I had 2.73 originally, swapped to 3.55 and love em'. I do a lot of driving on the street & Hwy. Where I live, gas is very high, so I'm happy I stuck w/ the 3.55

whichever gear you get 3.55 or 3.73, you will def. notice seat of pants gain in performance. If you add Headers with that, your car will act like a diff. Animal altogether!!!:nice:
