i found a sweet '93 coupe with a n/a 4 banger in it.. picked it up pretty cheap

noticed the problem but bought it anyway
planned a motor swap, but now that i cant afford 15mpg in my truck id like to drive it.
what kinda milage do these things get anyway?

Ok, car is a 5 speed.
when its parked, out of gear... you can rev it. revs fine up to whatever rpm.
when you go to drive it.
it will accelerate as long as you dont push the gas pedal past maybe 50% throttle...
once you push it down far enough, the car STOPS accelerating dead in its tracks and acts as i lifted the pedal.

if you ease back out of it, it goes again.

Now, this is all based off my 3-4 minutes of driving the car.
tested the a/c and let it idle before i talked money to the guy.
then said i wanted to test drive to test the tranny. and it wouldnt accelerate right.
bought it anyway.
black on black 93 coupe? hell yeah.

any ideas?
bad TPS? i know theres 2 plugs per cylinder in this thing maybe one or two are bad? plug wires?
any suggestions whatsoever?

Thanks
Derek

pony doesnt rev.

I had an escort that would'nt rev after i changed the plugs:shrug:i sprayed water with a spray bottle , on the plug wires while it was running and it showed alot of votage leaks . new wires cured it:nice: my 89 lx did this , after a complete tune up no change. no codes showing either. my mechanic got inside and floored it at idle. it went right up to 4200 rpm and let out a big bog through the intake. the cats are clogged and he was right. you may want to unbolt it and se if it helps.
