TKO or 3550?

Anyone know how to tell the difference?
The one I'm looking at says 3550 on the riveted plate, but doesn't say TKO anywhere?
Were the early TKOs just upgraded 3550s with the different tailshafts and internals?

I just got off the phone with TTC, and we deciphered the part # on the tranny.
He said that even the new TKOs are the 3550 case with upgrades, so the only way to tell is by the # or count tailshaft splines.
