Has anybody put a trailer hitch on a Cobra? I've seen several online sources that say "all Mustangs except Cobra." What's up with that? Is it the IRS? The exhaust? Anyway, if you have one, let me know what kind it is and where you got it. I'm getting a small trailer to haul race tires, EX-up, etc.

I'm not sure on why it wouldn't work...The hitch I have on my Cobra bolts up to an existing bolt that the bumper attaches to the frame rail with and then the installer drilled a hole on each side of the bumper for another bolt...I wouldn't see where the IRS would get in the way...I had mine installed at U-Haul...I'd give them a call...I know they make them for the 99+ GT's because my friend had one and had it installed at the same U-Haul I had mine put on at...

Here's a picture of it from the side, but I can send you some pictures of it from underneath where it attaches if you want so you can see what it looks like...

I don't see why it wouldn't work either. I had one on my 99GT, and it didn't come anywhere near the rear suspension that I remember. I just used it to tow a jet ski. I would go to a place that specializes in hitch installation. Out here in Maryland we have a place called the Hitchman. It's much cheaper than ordering it online, and it can be a pita to install since you have to do a little bumper drilling. I think I paid like$150 installed.

Ford recommends no towing with a Cobra. It will burn up the clutch/flywheel. It will void the warranty.

I use mine for a hitch mounted bike rack so I don't get the trunk all muddy after mountain biking...but I've seen people pull small trailers with tires and tools to SCCA events and to the drag strip before...

Warranty? What warranty? And I'm pretty sure the guy with the 99 is also out of warranty...

Ive been here longer than you have. There are vehicles made for towing, and other that are not. A Cobra is one of them.

I have to agree, there are vehicles that are made for towing. I can understang if you cant afford it, but you could get a beater truck, and a car trailer, save yourself some mileage on your cobra, and carry all you need. But if you want to burn up your clutch, then there should be no problem hooking up a trailer hitch. I have never seen a vehicle that was....un-hitchable...?

If I could only have one vehicle and still needed to pull a trailer...

I'd sell my Cobra and buy a Lightning.

I did see a silver 94-98 GT with a custom matching trailer made from the rear clip of another 94-98 GT once though. That was the only exception I'd make, personally.

I used my GT to pull my jetski all the time, and it had high miles when I got rid of it and I never had a problem. If you plan on pulling a 30foot boat I would say you are crazy, but if you are pulling something that hardly ways anything I don't see what difference it makes. I'm sure Ford says you are on your own if you tow with your car, but they also aren't going to warrenty a blower pulley change, or a computer flash or chip, or about a thousand other things that we do to our cars. So if say if you want to tow something I say go for it man, but just like anything else you do to your car that isn't stock, be aware there can be consequences. But if you aren't towing anything extreme I am sure you won't have any problems.
