what fluid in T-5

Careful not to confuse Tremec with the T5 (Borg Warner).

IIRC, the T5 recommends ATF for it (I agree - synthetic would be best).

Tremec used to recommend GM Synchromesh for their 3550 - not sure what they rec in their other trannies.

Pennzoil also works. I called Tremec on this issue. Pennzoil makes the GM Synchromesh. Mobil 1 is also recommended. They did not recommends Royal Purple but that was only due to the fact they had not tested it yet. I'm running Royal Purple in my 3550. I dont see Royal Purple making something that would not work across a wide range of transmissions but I don't blame Tremec for not recommending a fluid they had not yet tested either.

Tremec is a brand name.

However, when most people say 'My car has a tremec" they are referring to a 3550.


However after 97, Tremec bought Borg Warner, so a T-5 is a tremec product as well.


Tremec makes a bunch of Mustang transmissions - T-5, T-45, T-56, T-3550/TKO, T-6060

I beleive the t-5, t-45 and t-56 were originally Borg Warner designs.

i usually use conventional ATF, this last time out i put in some pennzoil syncomesh. not fully convinced on it, especially for 8 bucks a bottle. next time i'm going back to conventional ATF.
