Stock block 347, 10.5:1 comp. with 58cc chambers. It won't be a blower motor, maybe nitrous in the future. Forged pistons. 1.6 rockers. Crower cam and other stuff mentioned in sig. What would flow good for me to make, obviously, the most power possible??? Thanks for any and all thoughts and suggestions!

Yes, they come complete and you can get them from a lot of places, pick up an issue of Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, they have lots of places that sell them for, on average, $1300. I have never heard of too many people running Brodix heads but assume they are decent heads.

Wow, you all said the 185's! That's pretty impressive. And for only $1300, you think that's the best head to go with for my setup out of the box? Will the springs be OK with my current cam?

Black331Stang---I went with the 347 over the 331 because my block was already bored out 30 over, so naturally, I couldn't go with the smaller displacement. When I was looking into it, I knew nothing about it, so thought I could get a 331 somehow....nope...now I get it! LOL! How do you like your 331? Seat of the pants difference??? Mine sure is, but want different heads for the combo. (It never ends!)

ACTUALLY, it sounds like you are still sonfused. both 331 and 347 strokers utilize a .030 over bore, only the stroke is changed. Either kit would have worked. Make sense?

Yeah man, a 331 is .030 over with a 3.25 in stroke. Your 347 is .030 over with a 3.40 stroke. So you didn't have to buy the 347 kit just because your block was .030 over. The kits have different strokes, not bore size.

Is the stroke determined by the crankshaft?
Is there any stroker kits that uses a .60 overbore?
Just wondering.

Yes the crank has the different stroke and helps get the cubes, along with rod length. Almost any stroker can use a .060 piston, it will just add 5-6 cubes. .060 over on a stock block is a stretch though....

I also suggest the 185's and depending on your cam specs and how high you rev the motor I would look into the spring upgrade for sure...

Yea what he said,
I am in the middle of my 347 buildup and the concensus is that the AFR185's are the ticket, but I would suggest the spring upgrade also. How long does it usually take Ed Curtis for a custom cam? I have been waiting for him to tell me what his recommendation for my cam will be. Oh well I really dont want to pull my moter for the new one until it warms up just a tad...ha ha...its cold here in OHIO...5 degrees right now.

Tell me about it, my shortblock is ready to go back together but I can't wash my block with a hose and soap when it's 0 degrees out. Freeze my hands off!

As for the rest of you, let's do dome motor math. pie(r2xstroke) x how many cylinders you have equals your displacement.

302= 4.00 bore/3.00 stroke
Pie(2 squared x 3.00) x 8= 301.5928947 cubic inches

331= 4.030 bore/3.25 stroke
= 331.6448988 cubic inches

347= 4.030 bore/3.40 stroke
= 346.9515865 cubic inches

YEA, that's right! I remember now! LOL. :doh: I actually wanted the extra cubes, plus met a couple of guys at the track last year that had 347's and were very happy with them. I understand the way the 331 and 347's are each made now though.

So would the spring upgrade be an option when I buy them? (I don't have time right now to check out the web site). Also, is there a way to check my piston to valve clearance mathmatically instead of using clay and mounting the heads and all?

Another vote for the AFR 185s. Yes the springs are an option when you purchase them.

According to AFR catalog I downloaded today:

#1422, AFR 185, 58cc, stud mount, complete with parts= $1375
#8029, upgrade spring #8020 to #8002(Street Roller spring 1.550"OD), 0.100L Rev=$175
or
#8030, upgrade spring #8020 to #8000(Roller spring 1.550"OD), 0.100L Rev=$175
or
#8032, upgrade spring #8020 to #8015(Hydraulic Roller spring 1.530"OD), 0.050L Rev=$180
or
#8033, upgrade spring #8020 to #8016(Flat Tappet spring 1.550"OD), 0.100L Rev=$175
or
#8034, upgrade spring #8020 to #8002(Roller spring SBC 1.550"OD), 0.100L 0=$195

But that's all the information I'm going to put in here now. If you need more than that go to AFR heads

Later,

I got mine about 2.5 weeks after we talked. I assume he sent it to be ground once he got my payment. It came a lot sooner than I expected.

Another vote for AFR 185s. Ed did my spring upgrade. I was border lined wether I'd need it or not, so I went ahead and go it. Was 150. Ed has AFR heads in stock, he gets your money, heads on your door step in a few days. :nice:
