probably either the rear differential or the fuel pump. Regardless which one is the problem, louder whining is a sign of a problem. It's more likely the fuel pump - should be obvious since the rear-end can't whine when the car isn't rolling.

ouch. could it possibly be because i used a much lower octane gasoline at all? I have to admit that im not a terribly great genius when it comes to this car yet, and I dont know if these cars ran from the factory off of 93 octane, but i was told to only use that or maybe 91....the car has no real mods, except a shifter, and i was in a pinch and had to use 89 octane at the end of last week...

No, your octane has nothing to do with the fuel pump. You could run water and it would be fine.

well i didnt have anything fantastic in mind as far as upper performance, but a fuel pump replace? Whats the difficulty level on that kind of job? Should i even be able to hear a stock pump on a car like that?

Whinning sound that keeps on getting louder in rear pssgr seat.. hmmm?? Did you remember to take the baby out? :rlaugh: Sorry couldn't help myself. If it's keeps getting louder and louder from the rear. This is what I would do just to be safe. Although prob not the culprit check the gear fluid level. If okey next thing would be the fuel pump. Which is probably what it is. I had a pump go out on me after a week of abnormal high pitched whinning. Even after replaced still make normal whinning pitch. When you do or if you replace the pump also replace the fuel filter. Just my $.02

Maybe you are mistaking the whining noise for an exhaust leak?

When you first insert your key and turn to the on position, the fuel pump primes the fuel system for 2 seconds. If you hear the same whine you're referring to in those two seconds, then the fuel pump is your issue. If you don't and you only hear the whine while you're cruising, then it's your rear-end.

Those are the only things I can think of in the rear that'll give you a whine.
