Theft system (PATS)

Theft system (PATS). What is the Theft light doing?

On the 1996-1998, when activated, the PATS system disables the starter. Turn the key, no crank. If you were to jumper the starter, it would crank and start (make sure in park, be a shame to get run over).

On the 1999+'s, when PATS is activated, the PCM will not enable the fuel and spark system. The car cranks but does not start.

The system will reset itself after a short delay.

Note, sometimes big metal objects on the key ring may give the PATS trouble. Try just the key by itself.
