i bought my new alum DS hoping to cure a minor vibration i had. well turns out the "minor" vibration i had was more like MAJOR, the DS made the difference, you can feel the driveline is turning smooth as silk. the whole car feels much better. worth the money and then some.
My car vibrated real bad at one point too. $30 and half and hour later it was smooth as glass after I changed the U joints.
That will generally solve most issues. In my case, the original DS was bent, had it straightened/balanced and new u-joints installed. Still had a vibration after the gear swap. Aluminum DS solved mine as well. Always try to correct the stock piece issues before dropping the cash on the aluminum DS... Jim
i had been through number Driveshafts and the last one still vibrated but i could deal with it for a while. after bothering with the problem for so long. i opted to end it now, spend a little cash and know i'll solve the problem. and it did, very happy with the purchase.
Jim's experience is not uncommon. It's surprisingly easy to tweak a DS enough to get excessive run-out. Both other items listed (DS bolts and U-joints) are often the culprits. I've sometimes wondered if a dampening 'donut' (driveshaft bushing) would be a crutch for DS runout(the donuts were common on Euro cars a couple of decades ago). Glad to hear you got it all fixored.
I had the same results with my car, for whatever reason it was just better than the stocker. Plus i bought mine years ago when they were a mere $160 and nobody cared enough to consider buying one...then it was like this huge hype about'em came and everyone had to have one, then the price went up $100 bucks.
thats funny you say that.. on my gt there was a BAD vibration cruising on the freeway, but only when i let off the gas... so i figure the u-joint had play, so ill replace it.... after a couple weeks of driving like this because i had no time, i finally decided to crawl under the car, i go to loosen the d/s bolts to pull it out, and guess what? all 4 bolts prolly had about 1/4" to go in, before they were even finger tight! pulled out the blots, a lil loctite, and no more vib... that was prolly a lil dangerous.
Mine has SICK vibration after 80mph+ on the highway, even the clutch pedal is gizzling like a madman. It's really annoying and the sound is brutal... I may consider an aluminimum DS, what's the price of those ? and the installation ?
vibration yea i need a fix to. my girls car vibrates right around 70mph and isnt real hard just fast and annoying as hell. i cant tell if its coming from the front or the rear i replaced the rotors, pads, shoes and drums about a month ago and she said it started then. but i cant seem to locate it. think maybe i didnt tighten the bolts down on the rotors enough. i didnt want to tighten them to much but there pretty snug.
try looking for a used one in good shape. The prices for them new are insane. I got mine this past summer for 80 bucks locally. Cured highway vibrations.
same exact thing happened to me.... i didn't torque em after tranny rebuild.. i thought i messed up the tranny at first LOL
If you think that's good try changing your upper control arms. Feels like a totally different car around the cornors. I like my DS also.
Glad it fixed your issue! Luckily when I put mine in, I didn't have a vibe to start with, so my money was pretty much wasted I didn't notice a thing
